We currently have an opportunity available for an Avionics Apprentice AME - NIGHT SHIFT. Reporting to the Produc, this position is responsible for performing the duties and responsibilities which include, but are not limited to, the following:
**Duties and Responsibilities**:
- Assist Engineers in providing sound maintenance to Sunwest and customer aircraft fleet.
- Personal responsibility to workplace safety and active involvement with team members ensuring use of safe work practices.
- Adhere to the safety accountabilities as per Sunwest’s Safety Management System manual.
- Thorough familiarity with safety requirements and practice safe work habits
- Active involvement in the HITS system
- Assist Engineers with aircraft return to service in accordance with (IAW) Sunwest policy manuals and CARs.
- Liaise with engineers and provide assistance with aircraft inspection projects.
- Assist with maintenance of aircraft electronic systems and equipment, including communications, navigation, and autopilot equipment.
- Assist Engineers in inspecting and testing aircraft electrical and avionics related systems to ensure they are in proper working order.
- Assist with inspection, testing, repair, and certification of avionics components as allowed by the MCM.
- Assist with diagnosing electrical malfunctions or other related problems in the aircraft as per technical manuals, engineering drawings or blueprints.
- Assist in disassembling aircraft systems and remove defective components.
- Assemble and/or install replacement electronic components as per technical manuals, drawings, or blueprints.
- Communicate daily shop/ work task status with Crew Chief.
- Report problems to Engineers so action can be taken to rectify them.
- Record problems and the action taken to rectify them, maintaining an accurate record of the maintenance history of the aircraft.
- Work away from base to support aircraft rescue or inspection as required.
- Assist engineers in liaising with vendor/ technical support teams regarding engineering/ repair data procurement and implementation.
- Technical records and other maintenance related research as required.
- Complete aircraft configuration changes when required.
- Operate and maintain ground service equipment and tooling.
- Work with crew chief to complete Service Difficulty Reports when required.
- Maintain shop and personal tool control in accordance with the General Procedures Manual, and ensure personal toolbox is clean and organized.
- Assist with aircraft movement and wing walking.
- Ensure all required training is complete and up to date.
- Keep workplace clean and organized.
- Demonstrate professionalism and respect in the workplace.
- Other related duties as assigned by the Crew Chief.
**Qualifications, Experience and Competencies**:
- Transport Canada approved Avionics and Electronics Technology Program or Approved ICS correspondence.
- Ability to maintain a Restricted Airside Identification Card.
- Radio Licence
- Ability to refer to and follow technical manuals, written in terse abbreviated language.
- Must be able to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
- Diagnostic skills requiring sound knowledge of aircraft electrical and avionics systems, and basic applied mechanics.
- Have a good understanding of CAR’s
Basic computer literacy and ability to work with Microsoft Office and Outlook.
- Mechanical aptitude is a necessity.
- Good literacy and numerical skills.
- Problem solving skills are critical in handling challenging and complex aircraft system snags.
- Good communication skills required, both verbal and written.
- Efficient, with good time management skills.
- Must be able to work independently or in a team environment.

- Self-motivated and the ability to take initiative.
- Ability to work in challenging “4 season” weather conditions.
- Ability to provide and receive instructions and delegate accordingly.
- Demonstrate strong leadership skills.

- A valid Canadian passport or other approved means of travel international is an asset.
