**The Opportunity**: The City of Red Deer is currently recruiting three (3) permanent full-time **Equipment Operator 2**. These positions will report to the Roads section of the Parks & Public Works Department and will be responsible to operate equipment such as Front-end Loader, Skid Steer, Roller/Packer, Tandem, other fleet vehicles and trailers in a safe and efficient manner. Check, adjust and perform minor maintenance and repairs on assigned equipment. Perform various labouring duties. - Grade 8 or equivalent. - Completion of courses in defensive driving, traffic rules and regulations, safety and first aid or equivalent. - One year experience in related construction activities, to provide skill in the operation of assigned equipment and knowledge of the methods and materials used in Roads maintenance. - Knowledge of the operating characteristics, functions and capabilities of assigned equipment and of the required maintenance and adjustments (e.g. obtained through on-the-job training). - Valid Alberta Driver's License with a "Q" endorsement. (Tandem truck drivers require a Class 3 License.) - Ability to operate equipment to the required level of skill and to use various hand tools associated with equipment operation and maintenance and labouring work. - Ability to cooperate with colleagues as a team and to understand and follow instructions. - Ability to exert moderate physical effort (e.g. changing attachments, moving lengths of water hose, shovelling and other labouring activities). - Ability to work outside in all types of weather and in conditions which may be noisy, dirty and occasionally wet or disagreeable (water or sewer leaks). **Affiliation**: Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 417 **Remuneration**: $31.23 to $32.87 per hour **Hours of Work**: 80 hours biweekly as scheduled; Monday to Friday, occasional overtime - some evening and weekend work when required. - Summer Hours - 8-hour shifts (April through to end of October) - Winter Hours - 10-hour shifts (November through to end of March) **Additional Information**: More than one position will be filled from this posting.
