Job Summary
The Manager - Admissions supports UBC's strategic plan as it pertains to the University’s enrolment goals, and to providing high quality service to students and the selection of the qualified applicants who are admitted to UBC. The Manager - Admissions works collaboratively with other units both within and external to Enrolment Services to ensure that the process of moving from prospective student, to applicant, to registered UBC student is seamless.
The Manager - Admissions is responsible for the hiring, training, performance development, performance management and direct supervision of continuing or contract M&P advisor positions within the Undergraduate Admissions Office. This position will also participate in any termination decisions for Admissions Advisors. The role ensures that Admissions Advisors and Associate Admissions Advisors work collectively and collaboratively towards the University’s enrolment goals, and does so in the context of Enrolment Services’ performance development program.
The Manager - Admissions will lead a team of admissions staff throughout the admissions cycle to achieve admissions objectives; lead projects and initiatives aimed at updating and improving admissions policies, practices and systems; determine the admissibility of applicants to undergraduate programs at the University; participate in initiatives, activities, and events aimed at enhancing enrolment.
The Manager - Admissions is a key member of the Undergraduate Admissions Management team, often representing Undergraduate Admissions in efforts with other Enrolment Services and UBC units, faculty, and staff across both UBC campuses.
Organizational Status
The Manager directly manages, supervises and acts as an escalation point for Admissions staff on complex, sensitive or unique issues related to Undergraduate admissions. Exceptionally complex issues are referred to the Associate Director.
Work Performed
Provide Leadership & Expertise within the Undergraduate Admissions Office- Leads, motivates, and supervises team of Admission Advisors and Associate Admission Advisors within the Admissions Office to achieve the University’s enrolment goals.- Directs priority setting, distribution of work, attendance management, and mediation of issues and conflict amongst team members. Responsible for the screening and interviewing of applicants for permanent and contract M&P staff positions.- Designs, implements and evaluates staff training and orientation and ongoing staff development. Provides performance feedback to direct reports in line with Enrolment Service’s performance development program.-
- Monitors output against unit key performance indicators to ensure achievement of high-quality service to students and strategic enrolment management goals for the institution. Effectively prioritizes work, and the work of team members, to successfully manage high volumes of evaluations throughout the entire calendar year.- Collaborates internally with colleagues to debate and test understanding of external (i.e. international curricula) and internal (i.e. UBC Admission policy and practice) factors to build consensus. Builds capacity and provides leadership to oversee the evaluations of a particular applicant group.- Works cooperatively with members of the university community to assist in assessing credentials and program of study for a variety of purposes, including partnership and exchange programs, scholarships, and awards.- Conducts subsequent analyses (both quantitative and qualitative) to evaluate admission and transfer credit decisions against student performan
