The Alberta Emergency Management Agency (AEMA), under the authority of the Emergency Management Act, leads the coordination and co-operation of all organizations involved in emergencies and disasters. This includes emergency and disaster prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery.

The Alberta Emergency Management Agency (AEMA) is accountable and responsible to the GoA, to Albertans, to their communities, and to industry for the protection of people, their property, and the environment from the effects of emergency events. Alberta relies on a decentralized “system” for managing the various types of emergency events that occur every year. The AEMA accomplishes its objectives by leading the co-ordination, collaboration and co-operation between all entities involved in prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery activities within this diverse system.

**Role Responsibilities**:
Reporting to the Manager, Strategic Partnerships and Public Education, the Information and Engagement Specialist plays a lead role in engaging with internal and external partners to provide relevant and timely engagement and education that contributes to increasing individual and community resilience in Alberta.

Responsibilities Include:

- Using Adult Learning Theory, developing and delivering preparedness presentations, training and workshops to community leaders and GoA staff to create champions for the preparedness program
- Representing the team and AEMA at public events and delivering presentations at conferences and other events, including virtual or in-person town halls.
- Leading work associated with the development, implementation and measurement of a Stakeholder Engagement Strategy to build the unit's capacity and increase individual emergency preparedness and community resiliency
- Leading the creation and identification of public education opportunities.

**Qualifications**:
**Required**:
University education in a related field (Education, Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, English, Public Engagement) PLUS 2 years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below;
**Equivalency**:

- Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education**You MUST also have**
- Knowledge of emergency management principles
- Strong analytical skills
- Experience communicating effectively in person and online as a public speaker or trainer
- Superior written, verbal and visual communication skills - please provide a cover letter outlining your relevant experience with public speaking
- Valid Class 5 Drivers license and clear driver abstract
