**Title: Environmental Specialist**

**Reporting To: Manager, Environment**

**Job Purpose**:
The Environmental Specialist (ES) will organize, lead and perform field tasks in a safe and effective manner. The ES will complete and lead various field components of small
- and large-scale environmental projects in the forestry, utility, oil and gas, government, and private sectors. Environmental projects will involve natural resource management, with a focus on vegetation, ecosystem mapping, fish and fish habitat, wildlife and wildlife habitat and species at risk. The ES will also periodically provide support related to construction environmental monitoring, water quality management, and erosion and sediment control, as well as support report and permit preparation working closely with senior professionals, Project Leads and Project Biologists.

**Key Job Functions & Responsibilities**

**Key technical duties include but are not limited to the following**:

- Collect, input, organize and analyze data, and plan/undertake/lead field activities, including baseline assessment and field layout programs, salvage programs, and various surveys in different fields (i.e., vegetation, fish and fish habitat, wildlife and wildlife habitat, species at risk, watercourses and wetlands, and ecological communities).
- Act as an Environmental Monitor on construction projects involving natural resource management, including instream works and works in sensitive environments.
- Work with teams of environmental specialists and technicians responsible for conducting environmental baseline surveys and impact assessment studies in conformance with local, provincial, and federal regulations.
- Independently prepare written technical reports summarizing methods and daily activities associated with field activities.
- Organize, coordinate and lead field programs with Environmental Technicians.
- Take the lead on specific tasks, taking direction on others, and collaborating with colleagues to maximize work productivity and quality.
- Maintain and calibrate equipment used for environmental field programs.
- Maintain positive relationships with existing and new clients.
- Anticipate and communicate when a task cannot be completed on time or on budget.

- Timely response to field change requests and requests and corresponding deliverable requirements.
- Bottlenecks/inefficiencies/quality issues are identified and communicated with senior management team and/or Project Leads.
- Clients are satisfied with project deliverables.
- All field work and reporting deliverables meet technical requirements as defined by legislation, regulation and McTavish quality standards.
- Field work is carried out in a safe and effective manner that meets the project scope of work requirements.
- Assigned tasks and deliverables are completed to the satisfaction of the Manager, Project Lead, Technical Director, client, and other relevant entities.
- Effective relationships are maintained internally and externally and externally.

**Job Requirements**

**Requirements for the role of Environmental Specialist are provided below**:

- Science degree or diploma from a recognized university or college.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a professional service with emphasis on environmental consulting.
- Demonstrated experience in executing field based environmental consulting services.
- Demonstrated experience in leadership of junior professionals within the environmental consulting industry.
- Registered with the BC College of Applied Biology or other recognized credential program (i.e., ASPB, Eco Canada, ABCFP).
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel etc.).
- Valid Class 5 Drivers Licence.
