The Water treatment plant Overall Responsible Operator monitors and operates computerized control systems and related equipment in water filtration and treatment plants to regulate the treatment and distribution of water and operate computerized control systems and related equipment in wastewater, sewage treatment and liquid waste plants to regulate the treatment and disposal of sewage and wastes. They are employed by the Independent First Nations Alliance Water and Wastewater Hub and reports to the Hub Supervisor.

**Responsibilities**:
Water and wastewater treatment overall responsible operators perform some or all the following duties:

- Mentors staff in the operation and monitor computerized control systems and related equipment in both the water treatment plants to regulate the treatment and distribution of water, and wastewater treatment, sewage treatment and liquid waste plants to regulate the flow of sewage through settling, aeration, and digestion tanks, and to treat and dispose of sewage and wastes,
- Mentor staff in the monitoring and inspection of plant equipment and systems to detect equipment malfunctions and to ensure plant systems are operating normally,
- Mentors staff in the reading of flow meters, gauges, and other recording instruments to measure water output and consumption levels, bacterial content, chlorine, and fluoride levels,
- Mentors staff in the collection and testing of water and wastewater sampling for chemical and bacterial content, analyze test results, instrument readings, and adjust plant equipment and systems to ensure quality control,
- Provide verbal or written instructions for process control changes to waterworks system to ensure water produced meets standardized quality requirements,
- Mentors staff in the performance of preventive maintenance on plant equipment to ensure that the facility operates in accordance with required standards,

**Position Requirements**:

- Completion of secondary school or equivalent,
- Post Secondary diploma or degree in environmental services, or industry training pertaining to water and wastewater services,
- A valid Class 1 in water treatment, water distribution, water distribution and collection certificate with a willingness and ability to obtain certification at the highest level of the facilities.
- A valid Class 1 in wastewater collection and treatment with a willingness and ability to obtain certification at the highest level of the facilities,
- A valid Class G Ontario driver’s license and ability to travel within the Region,
- Previous experience as a worker in the water treatment or wastewater field is an asset.
- Certification in workplace hazardous materials information system (WHMIS), transportation of dangerous goods (TDG), and courses in safety practices may be required,
- A good understanding of the culture and the language is a definite asset,
- Familiarity with the Independent First Nations Alliance First Nations is also an asset,
- Experience with mentoring and training staff as needed,
- A working knowledge of Microsoft office.
- Communicate effectively both in writing and verbal communication within IFNA and external support organizations.
- Familiarity of Indigenous communities and organizations; experience working for an Indigenous organization especially in a remote setting
- Knowledge of Indigenous funding agencies and governments.
- Understanding of Indigenous history, traditions, and beliefs with the ability to implement cultural values and practices within the delivery of services; Ability to speak one of the Indigenous dialects is an asset.
- Familiarity of Indigenous communities and organizations; experience working for an Indigenous organization.
- Willingness to travel to communities via small aircraft and/or vehicle.

We offer a full benefits package including health, dental, life insurance, short

**Salary**: $55,000 - $65,000 per year

**Schedule**: Regular hours from Monday to Friday with weekends, overtime and on-call availability.
