Wire and cable distribution is an essential component within the value chain of the electrical industry. It involves the distribution of various types of electrical wiring and cables from manufacturers to end-users such as electrical contractors, utility companies, and other customers. Distributors play a crucial role in ensuring that the right products are delivered to the right customers, in a timely and efficient manner. They also provide technical support and assistance and help customers make informed purchasing decisions, ultimately helping to keep the value chain running smoothly.

**General Manager** reports to the Banner Vice President. The incumbent is responsible for the overall management of the Business Development area. General Manager is accountable for establishing and achieving budgetary goals by providing effective executive leadership; and ensuring focused sales and marketing strategies are developed, executed, and monitored. He / She is also accountable for ensuring appropriate levels of organizational planning, budgeting, cost control, and total quality initiatives are carried out. General Manager is in direct contact with the District/Regional Managers; Sales Managers (BD) and Sales & Marketing Managers within the assigned Business Development area. In addition, has direct contact with Sales Representatives, customers and suppliers. He/she is responsible for the development of budgetary goals and ensuring once adopted, are closely monitored and achieved.

**ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Establishes annual budgetary target plans for applicable area and once accepted by senior management, ensures it is received at all levels. Analyzes areas for improvement and implements action plans appropriately. Meets with key customers to discuss market trends, future business, resolve concerns, and increase customer awareness while supporting the sales and marketing plans within the customer base.
- Provides effective management through strong leadership and direction with immediate subordinates. Coordinates dealings with each other, departments, outside manufactures, suppliers and customers.
- Develops and maintains a highly motivated staff by creating a work environment that facilitates high staff morale and team spirit. Ensures staff receive the required levels of training by identifying future core competency training necessary to carry out assigned responsibilities.
- Maintains focus towards company policies and objectives and encourages and maintains a cohesive team atmosphere to foster positive employee relations. Ensures ISO policies and procedures and work instructions are clearly understood and practiced.
- Maintains a positive work climate through motivation and morale building at all levels within the Business Development area. Achieves this challenge through visits, meetings with staff to relay corporate objectives and financial results and to answer questions of concern.
- Reviews ongoing performance of the District/Regional Managers and identifies superior performers with development potential and recommends core competency training to further skills level.
- Provides direction, coaching and leadership to direct reports. Creates a healthy environment where staff can perform to their maximum potential. Offers input on recruitment, training and performance management.
- Analyzes purchases and sales history from suppliers to detect methods to improve profit margins. Establishes relations with key customers and suppliers to build sound business relationships and negotiate contracts and rebates.
- Constructs annual budgetary levels and margins with input from the District/Regional Managers and sets regional sales budgets and targets.
- Evaluates sales reports and communicate results to all levels to ensure budgets are achieved and monitored.
- Must follow and comply with all health and safety policies, procedures and regulations, which can be found in the Rexel Canada Health & Safety Manual.
