In this role you will dig deep into the design details and the construction strategy of your client's projects. You will oversee the design to uncover gaps, keep costs in check, and will ensure the trade-contractors’ scopes are defined and complete. You will help your clients manage risks and maximize opportunities by representing them in the boardroom, on the construction site, and everywhere in between.
**Responsibilities**:
- Provide pre-construction leadership for the Construction Solutions team for projects across Canada based on target value delivery and lean construction principles
- Communicate effectively within a diverse team to positively influence the project outcome and strengthen relationships
- Lead and manage pre-construction phase activities using design-build, construction management, or stipulated price methodologies
- Ensure accurate and timely response of project team for value engineering, schedule development, risk analysis, constructability, construction logistics, and other deliverables
- Oversee pre-construction deliverables from project introduction through construction document completion
- Participate in design meetings with owners, architects, consultants, and engineers to provide real-time feedback on cost, schedule, and constructability
- Review design documentation including specifications and drawings for quality, content, coordination, and constructability to provide recommendations to the owner and consultant teams
- Research alternative construction products, means, and methods and present findings to the owner and designers
- Actively support and participate in cost estimating activities, assist with construction budgets for projects and provide input on value engineering
- Coordinate resolution of constructability issues during design and lead design and construction document reviews
- Oversee development of cost information through benchmarking, and utilization of various estimating platforms
- Plan and lead pre-construction strategy meetings and make recommendations to the owner and the consultants about procurement options
- Prepare 3D site logistics plans, construction management plans, trade package strategies, early works plans, and sequencing options
- Assist with preparation of Division 01 General Requirements, Scopes of Work, and Trade Package documents and make recommendations for project-specific considerations
- Visit site to collect information/data/photos and review options for renovation projects to assist with the preparation of technical due diligence, life-cycle cost, equipment integration, and feasibility studies
- Manage subconsultants and/or subcontractors employed by Colliers Project Leaders when required
Qualifications:
- A diploma or university degree in mechanical or electrical engineering, combined with experience in the building construction industry
- 5-10 years of related experience in the design, cost estimating, and construction
- Hands-on construction experience is desirable, either at work or at home
- PMP and P.Eng. qualifications will be given preference
- Demonstrated familiarity with the Building Code and Health & Safety regulations for the construction industry and regulatory permit requirements
- Strong ability to read and interpret design drawings
- General knowledge of trades relevant to commercial construction
- Knowledge of government regulations regarding the construction industry and standard contract forms (i.e. CCDC, CCA)
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office tools such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook; in addition to similar Google communication tools
- Knowledge of project management tools such as Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, Procore, RSMeans Online, and BuildingConnected
- Knowledge of design tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, Navisworks, and BIM 360
