**JOB SUMMARY**:
The Employment Advisor will be instrumental in the delivery of programs and services designed to support a culture of learning, leadership, involvement, and service for Ontario Tech University students and alumni. Reporting to the Manager, Career Services and Experiential Learning, this position is responsible for the provision of a wide variety of job search support services including workshops/presentations, resume critiques, mock interviews, on-line resources and employment advising. In addition, the incumbent will support the coordination of a number of special events including Job Fairs and recruitment opportunities, Further Education Expos, and faculty-specific employment events.

The Employment Advisor is also responsible for liaising and building relationships with staff and faculty, student organizations, and within other student service areas, as well as external community partners and social organizations to develop and implement appropriate service levels for recruitment initiatives and to facilitate ongoing support for Ontario Tech University students and alumni.

**RESPONSIBILITIES and ACCOUNTABILITIES**

**Employment Advising**:
Provides individual and group support for all students, recent graduates, and alumni with their job search goals and contributes to the development and implementation of career development and job search supports. These include:

- Coaching students (undergraduate, graduate and alumni) in person, online and in groups regarding employment advising sessions covering topics such as resume, cover letter and personal statement development, mock interview, labour market information, continuing education information and other career options
- Educating students on job search strategies and supporting students in acquiring career development pathways through individual advising, drop-in sessions, workshops, resource development and other services
- Coordinating special events including but not limited to Job Fair and recruitment opportunities, Further Education Expo and faculty specific events (scheduling, promotion, employer recruitment and liaison, monitoring budgeting, logistics, etc.)
- Coordinating the Peer Employment Advising program, including assisting with recruitment, training and monitoring of service delivery
- Liaising with employers to facilitate on-campus recruitment and promotional activities
- Collaborating with internal stakeholders, including faculty and student groups, to organize and facilitate job search workshops and the promotion of career services as early as possible in their academic programs; using research skills to tailor content to stakeholder needs
- Referring students to other student support services if assistance is needed

**Job Search Programming**:
Leads in the design, development and coordination of career management and professional development programming for students that is grounded in theory and research. This includes:

- Designing, developing and delivering job search programming for students, including professional skills workshops, events, career management workshops, and discussion groups
- Developing information sessions and resources for faculties on strategies to support career management/job search initiatives in courses and programs
- Developing and facilitating small group workshops and seminars that focus on career and employment topics that are tailored to specific academic programs and/or specific needs
- Assessing the effectiveness of job search support resources and programs through statistical records, assessment of learning outcomes achievement, participant satisfaction, etc.
- Assisting with departmental projects and other duties as assigned and representing the Career Centre on campus committees and events

**Resource Development**:
Leads in the development, production, and promotion of online resources to support career development at Ontario Tech University by:

- Developing resources, exercises and processes for students to support their professional development and employment success in collaboration with university staff and other university departments/faculties, including printed materials, multi-media presentations, online learning activities, tutorials and videos
- Liaising with other Career Centre staff to develop tutorial-based resources for career management and professional development
- Liaising with Ontario Tech University faculty to ensure appropriate resources are available for students
- Liaising with the library to understand available library resources
- Continuously keeping up to date
