**The Role**:
**Duties/Responsibilities**:
You will research and develop school programs for clients based on client needs and curriculum requirements for local boards of education.

You will develop, implement, and deliver new education programs, including for short-term exhibits, to expand the museum’s demographic reach and appeal.

You will develop and maintain school program and exhibit related materials.

You will develop evaluation criteria for education programs to evaluate program effectiveness and update programs annually.

You will develop content for promotional materials related to school programs and perform outreach activities to schools, community groups, and organizations.

You will oversees booking and scheduling of schools and other visiting educational groups to the site.

You will develop and assists to implement some public programs and special events under supervisor guidance, involving outside partnerships and presenters.

You will run morning meetings to inform teacher, interpreters and other staff of daily events, programs, and group visits.

You will coordinate with local boards of education and management to write reports and funding requests, as required.

You provide historic interpretation for the public and tour groups, occasionally in costume and deliver school programs in historic house and exhibit galleries.

You will collaborate and consult with other museum staff, consultants, and contractors in the interpretive and education messaging aspects of museum exhibits and displays.

You will administer budget allocations for assigned educational programs and make recommendations to management and Village Coordinator for program purchases.

You will maintain an inventory of education materials, order supplies, materials, and services for programs, for supervisor approval.

**Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities**:
Knowledge of research, development, and delivery of public and education programs at a museum and living history site, local school board and Ministry policies, procedures, and curriculum guidelines, and current pedagogical theory and methods, acquired through a 4-year university degree, plus a teaching degree, plus 1 year of experience coordinating education programs in a museum/heritage setting.

Knowledge of and ability to comply with policies, procedures, and related program guidelines.

Knowledge of Waterloo Region Museums, local history, culture, interpretation styles, and techniques, historical trade, agricultural, domestic and craft practices and procedures and ability to teach/demonstrate same.

Analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills to plan, develop, adjust, and evaluate new and existing programs, coordinate staff schedules for events/programs, and respond to urgent program-related issues.

Human relations and communications skills to promote programs to the public and potential clients provide guidance to teacher/interpreters and students, present speeches, workshops, seminars, provide tours to the public and groups, occasionally communicate with the media for promotional purposes, and participate as an effective team member.

Ability to read journals, books, articles, curriculum materials, and research. Ability to write program and education materials, promotional materials, reports, manuals, and correspondence.

Computer skills using software such as Microsoft Office and event management software.

Ability to flex/alter daily hours and work weekends and evening as part of a regular schedule.

Ability to travel to within and outside Waterloo Region.

Ability to support and demonstrate the Region’s values.
