**Ministry of Energy and Minerals**

The Ministry of Energy and Minerals is responsible for sustaining the interests of Albertans through the stewardship and responsible development of energy and mineral resource systems.

**Strategy and Market Access Division**
The Strategy and Market Access Division is responsible for the department's strategic direction with a focus on energy security and market access, climate policy, development of low carbon natural gas value chain and clean energy investment attraction. It is also responsible for the policy and legislative coordination process and agencies, boards, and commissions.

**Natural Gas Strategy and Engagement Branch**
The Natural Gas Strategy and Engagement Branch leads the strategic development of a lower-carbon natural gas value chain and low carbon fuels. It ensures appropriate integration and alignment of strategic policies involving clean energy infrastructure and key low carbon development pathways like hydrogen, LNG, petrochemicals, and plastic circular economy across the Government of Alberta. Through stakeholder engagement, environmental scanning, risk-assessments, and manufacturing opportunities assessment, it seeks to grow and diversify the natural gas sector into the new low carbon energy landscape.

The Natural Gas Strategy and Engagement Branch is currently seeking a dynamic Manager to oversee the research, stakeholder engagement, and analysis on priorities that have significant impacts on Alberta's economy and energy system.

Reporting to the Director, Natural Gas Value-add, Logistics and Environment, the Manager, Infrastructure and Downstream brings solid understanding of the upstream, midstream, and downstream natural gas sector and experience in creating well-founded policy advice to senior officials and decision-makers.

The Manager, Infrastructure and Downstream will be responsible for:

- Leading the Infrastructure and Downstream team, supervising analysts tasked with understanding barriers to growing and sustaining the energy sector in Alberta, managing business administration for the unit, and supporting the Director and branch.
- Supporting meeting briefs, action requests, key policy and project documents, daily issues scanning and issue management support to Government, DMO, MO, and Energy Communications.
- Representing the branch and the department in various meetings and forums, especially those that relate to natural gas and hydrocarbon policies and regulatory topics.
- Anticipating and proactively promoting desired outcomes through solutions and approaches to sensitive and rapidly changing strategies by regulatory bodies and stakeholders.
- Fostering a team atmosphere in achieving the mandate and goals of the unit, branch, division, and Ministry.

This position demands systems thinking, critical thinking, problem-solving, adaptability, leadership, and relationship-building skills to support high-profile public policy development. Ability to balance competing interests, requiring strategic and tactical planning to anticipate future needs, broad policy expertise and political acumen to shape and implement policies, well-developed consultation, and negotiation skills to manage stakeholder interests, and the ability to forge relationships across industry, government, and the Department to build consensus and support ongoing energy policy development and implementation.
