ABOUT THE JOB:
Exchanger Industries Limited (EIL) is seeking a Manager, Drafting & Design to lead our Drafting & Design Team. This position is responsible for developing people, improving department performance, and ensuring production-ready models, drawings, BOMs, and related fabrication documentation are delivered accurately, consistently, and on schedule.
This is a high-ownership leadership role, you will coach, guide, and build team capability while strengthening processes, governance, and standard work across the drafting/design function.
What you’ll be accountable for:
People Leadership (core focus)
- Lead, coach, mentor, and develop a team of drafting and design professionals
- Set clear expectations, provide ongoing feedback, and support performance management
- Build training plans and growth pathways to strengthen technical depth and consistency
- Drive accountability and collaboration through daily leadership and “coaching in the moment” Delivery & Quality
- Provide direction, planning, and execution for all CAD/drafting/documentation deliverables
- Ensure outputs meet applicable codes/standards, customer requirements, and internal quality expectations
- Maintain strong revision control, drawing discipline, and “right-first-time” deliverables Capacity, Scheduling & Cross-Functional Alignment
- Forecast workload and resource requirements; manage schedules, priorities, and assignments
- Participate in S&OP and translate demand signals into manpower and planning
- Communicate risks, constraints, and recommendations early and clearly
- Coordinate internal and external drafting resources (as needed) Standardization & Continuous Improvement
- Own CAD/PDM governance, procedures, templates, libraries, and drawing standards
- Track KPIs including on-time delivery, cycle time, rework/defects, and SLA adherence
- Use data and root-cause thinking to reduce rework, improve throughput, and strengthen standard work Qualifications Education & Experience
- Post-secondary education in Drafting/Design Technology, Mechanical Technology, or related discipline (or equivalent experience)
- 5+ years progressive drafting/design documentation experience in industrial manufacturing
- People leadership experience strongly preferred (formal leader or lead/acting capacity) Technical Skills
- Strong 3D modelling and 2D detailing knowledge for fabrication and assembly documentation
- Autodesk Inventor and/or SolidWorks preferred
- PDM/PLM and revision control experience is an asset
- Understanding of weld symbols and technical documentation standards
- Familiarity with ASME, ASTM, TEMA, API standards is an asset Leadership & Communication
- Comfortable with performance management, coaching, and difficult conversations
- Strong stakeholder management across Engineering, Projects, Procurement, and Production
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a practical, solutions-first approach Work Environment
- Primarily office-based with regular time in the manufacturing environment (PPE required)
