Everyday, the traditional model of school lets students down, with its inability to individualize and adapt to a learner. This causes frustration, disillusionment, and eventually disengagement in most students. Every learner, from the highest of high-flyers, to those struggling to survive, are not taught to hone their ability to learn. As a result, they are missing the necessary skill-set required to master content and understanding at a higher, more efficient level.
Elements Education infuses a unique business model to not only illuminate the practices missing from traditional education, but to turn new learning practices back onto traditional education, in order to increase mastery and achieve ever increasing performance.
**The 4 pillars of Elements Academic Coaching are**:
1.Executive functioning training
2.Tutoring
3.University/career planning
4.Mentorship
- You excel in, and enjoy working with children/students (ages 10 to 100), with a focus on younger students. An extreme amount of patience is required to achieve results for another.
- You have the ability to work afternoons, evenings and weekends. Elements Education runs sessions around school hours.
- You have a growth mindset, and work continually to maintain it. Many aspects of this position require an extreme amount of knowledge in various fields that allow the coach to immediately provide value to their student in a 5-10 second window. NO PRIOR KNOWLEDGE in advanced math, science, writing, executive functioning, and university enrolment is required, but a coach must be able to learn and master this content easily and effectively in their spare time to become valuable. Therefore, prior knowledge in one or more areas may be an asset in this role.
- You are a clear communicator. No amount of knowledge is valuable if you cannot articulate it well enough to make someone else understand. Elements Education needs metacognitive skills to land with the very young as well as the not-so-young. Therefore, it requires adaptive and creative communication skills from a coach. Intake sessions involving parents and students simultaneously will require conversational wizardry.
- You are perceptive, can anticipate needs, and you seek first to understand. Students (especially teenagers) are often not self-aware enough to KNOW why they do what they do and how they make decisions. You have to perceptively identify every nuance and hear what is and is not being said.
- You strongly believe that a positive student/teacher relationship is crucial to successful learning. No student cares about your knowledge unless they care about you and feel you care about them.
- You strongly believe in reframing, not blaming. If your student does not follow through or execute properly and you want to believe it is their fault, look inward.
- You can positively and responsively handle conversations that can, at times, be uncomfortable. Parents of students often carry their preconceived notions of traditional education and a “winner” attitude to the table. They often attempt to bulldoze their solution into the program. This is quite often due to an insecurity or feeling of their own failure to
