**Part I - Position Purpose**
Under the direction of the Manufacturing Production Supervisor the Furniture Maker will be assigned to various tasks within all aspects of the manufacturing and finishing operations. Assist with the effective operation of the Studio. The incumbent will greet clients and assist them in product and services to best fit their wants and needs. You will work alongside the other members of our team to create custom wood products per customer request.
**Part II - Position Functions**
- Selecting the appropriate wood, materials, fittings, and tools for each task.
- Advising on appropriate care for finished products upon request.
- Receive and understand work orders.
- Planning an effective approach to work to ensure that each project is completed on time.
- Gathering the elements of each furniture piece and assembling the final product.
- Cutting resources down to size, as needed.
- Creating molds for epoxy.
- Cut/ joint and glue up pieces.
- Layout and operation of Festool dominos.
- Sanding of furniture pieces assembled or dismantled.
- Assembling furniture using a variety of mechanism such as dominos, dowels, and or threaded inserts.
- Inspecting each completed item to ensure that it has been constructed accurately, and that the necessary finishes have been applied in alignment with MetalWood standards.
- Verify and double check all calculations to ensure alignment.
- Wearing the required and proper PPE and taking necessary precautions to remain safe.
- Clean and use all equipment necessary for your work, including handsaws, router, panel saw, skill saw, band saw, dominos and a variety of drills and sanding tools.
- Be exact in measurements and markings so that materials will be used efficiently and the projects will meet budgetary restrictions.
- Install the appropriate hardware.
- Delivery of finished products.
- Assist with loading and unloading of kilns.
- Other duties as required.
**Part III - Position Specifications**
**Work Experience Requirements**:
Completion of a training program or apprenticeship will be advantageous.
2 or more years’ experience as a wood worker, with a portfolio of completed works.
**Education Requirements**:
High school diploma/GED.
**Required Skills**:
- A POSITIVE ATTITUDE is a must
- Class G drivers license and clean drivers abstract.
- Teamwork and alertness.
- Forklift experience an asset.
- Attention to detail and organization.
- Strength and stamina must have the ability to lift up to 100lbs.
- Ability to meet tight deadlines without sacrificing workmanship.
- Working knowledge of Festool Dominos and biscuit jointers is an asset.
- Knowledge and use of routers.
- Physical fitness, including ease of movement.
- Possesses an energetic, outgoing, and friendly demeanor.
- Math skills to calculate Board Footage, subtract fractions that are equal. Convert decimal to fraction. Area of a circle.
- Proper sanding techniques are essential.
- Ability to read tape measure is critical
- Knowledge of wood types, terminology and industry an asset.
- Ability to follow workflow processes and policy and procedures.
- Health and Safety oriented.
- Ability to follow technical drawings is an asset.
**Salary**: $23.00-$32.00 per hour
Schedule:
- Monday to Thursday 8:00 AM- 5:00 PM
- Friday: 8:00 AM- 4:00 PM
Work Location: In person
