Project Manager and Research Coordinator, Centre for Research in Young People's Texts and Cultures term

The Centre for Research in Young People's Texts and Cultures (CRYTC) at UWinnipeg is hiring a **Project Manager and Research Coordinator for a full-time term** position. The CRYTC supports scholarly inquiry into literary, media, and other cultural texts for children and youth. It provides a focus for research in the field at the University, facilitates the development and management of collaborative national and international research projects, hosts visiting speakers and researchers, and maintains links with other research centres in children's studies internationally and nationally.
**Responsibilities**:
- Develop strategies and protocols for retaining files in various formats and arranging access to them, in accordance with Tri-Council policies on data management and protocols for research with Indigenous communities.
- Develop progress indicators for project research, training, and knowledge mobilization activities in conjunction with the Project Director (PD) and track the project against these milestones.
- Develop the overall project budget and annual budgets in conjunction with the PD and track expenses against budgets, monitor other grants, and record cash and in-kind contributions from project partners.
- Support Teams Leaders’ Meetings and meetings of the Project Advisory Board as administrator and recording secretary.
- Support research team meetings as needed.
- Maintain employment records for all student and community researchers.
- Ensure that reports to funders and to the Research Office are filed on time and protocols are followed.
- Collect and analyze qualitative and quantitative data on the project and its effectiveness.
- Arrange travel for researchers and Advisory Board members as needed.
- Develop a strategy for the use of the website in intra-team communications and in knowledge mobilization.
- Maintain the websites of the Six Seasons project and CRYTC.
- Co-ordinate communications among researchers and between projects.
- Liaise with other University departments and organizations.
- Design and produce materials for knowledge mobilization and events.
- Represent the project at local, national, and international events, conferences, and workshops, and at events at which attendance is requested by the Indigenous community partners.
- Write reports for executive members of the Board of the International Research Society for Children’s Literature.
- Support team leaders in the organizational work of team-building and management.
- Stay informed about best practices for large-scale, community-engaged projects, particularly projects that involve research with and for Indigenous communities.
- Develop, in collaboration with Indigenous community partners, supplementary projects that respond to their expressed needs.
- Coordinate events related to projects and CRYTC.
- Provide orientation and training to student research assistants.
- Supervise students working on communications, knowledge mobilization, and data management, and the CRYTC Office Assistant.
**Qualifications**:
- Minimum 4-year or Honours BA in Humanities or Social Sciences, MA or other graduate degree in Humanities or Social Sciences preferable.
- Training in project management ideal.
- Some experience in the following areas would be highly desirable:
- in large research project management in the context of community engagement and collaboration
- in research with Indigenous communities
- in research grant writing
- in drafting and maintaining multiple budgets accurately
- in organizing and managing academic workshops and events
- with coding and updating websites (with and without Content Management Systems)
- A commitment to the Six Seasons project mandate to undertake ethical and respectful research with and for Indigenous communities.
- Culturally competent to work with Indigenous researchers and community partners.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills, able to work independently with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal/human relations skills.
- Ability to provide direction and motivate administrative and research assistants.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Understanding of the processes of research and communicating research.
- Strong ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with various levels of internal and external contacts.
- Initiative to identify areas for improvement and possible solutions.
- Strong ability to use Microsoft Office programs, Adobe Creative Suite, Audacity (or equivalent audio editing software), PSPad (or equivalent text and source code editor), Secure Shell/FTP Protocols, and transcription software.
- Ability to code XHTML and CSS, and familiarity with XML and Javascript is useful.
