Research Assistant, Lab Development for Cultural

Research Assistants are normally students, in a University of Winnipeg undergraduate program, employed to assist with tasks related to research. Work is performed within defined guidelines and under supervision of a more senior researcher or faculty member.
**Position Overview**:
The Research Assistant will help with researching, developing, and testing new lab-based experiential learning resources for first and second-year courses in Cultural Anthropology, drawing on new and existing collections at the Anthropology Museum. This project is supported by the University of Winnipeg Experiential Learning Fund.
**Duties**:
- Compile bibliographies and literature reviews for assigned lab topics
- Employee will conduct literature searches, locate pertinent document extracts, and create a literature review for each lab.
- Locate new collections items for purchase by the Anthropology Museum to support lab teaching.
- Employee will search online sales catalogues or directly contact providers to identify purchase options for new resources sought for lab instruction.
- Prepare and format instruction sheets and text panels for use by students.
- Employee will draft object labels, summary text panels, activity instructions, and question sheets for use in labs.
- Assist with pilot labs
- Employee will set up and observe pilot lab activities, debrief participants, and prepare a summary report on student learning.
**Qualifications**:
- Anthropology major or minor.
- Completion of ANTH-1002 (Introduction to Cultural Anthropology and Linguistics) or ANTH-1005 (Introduction to Cultural Anthropology - Indigenous Focus), and ANTH-2100 (Method and Theory in Cultural Anthropology) is required.
- Completion of or enrollment in in ANTH-2013 (Ethnography of Indigenous Peoples in Canada and the US) is preferred.
- Ability to organize information and communicate effectively in writing.
**Condition(s) of Employment**:
- **Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.**
The period of work will be from **December 9, 2024 - March 31, 2025 **and the estimated total hours of work will be **40-120 hours**.
