Accounts Payable Assistant

**Position Summary**

Working within the Finance Department the Accounts Payable Assistant will provide technical services using clerical skills to assure the accurate and timely payment of expenses for Seabird Island Band programs. The successful applicant must maintain confidentiality of all financial records. The Accounts payable assistants will be responsible for processing invoices, resolving account discrepancies, managing bank reconciliation, creating expense reports, and updating account information on the company's database

**What you’ll do**
- Processes invoices, travel claims, reimbursement and petty cash requests using an interactive A/P system
- Reconciles monthly vendor statements and researches problem invoices and receipts
- Processes payment batches using the cheque, electronic funds transfer and pre-authorized payment methods
- Files vendor invoices with cheque stub to vendor file
- Maintains accountability for issuing cheques to vendors and staff
- Receives daily mail and checks invoices against open purchase orders, distributes copies of unmatched invoices to ordering department
- Prepares accounts payable listing of cheques for signature
- Ensures the accurate and timely completion of required paperwork
- Assists in reconciliation of company credit cards
- Other projects as required
- Other duties or responsibilities as assigned by your supervisor, Director, or the Executive Director

**What you bring**
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance or an accounting assistant certificate from an accredited college would an asset
- Minimum Grade 12 or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Two years experience in an accounting department and a working knowledge of office procedures, records management and document processing
- Excel - Intermediate Level
- Ability to adhere to Oath of Confidentiality and Seabird Island Band Policies and Procedure.
- Knowledge and respect of Stó:lō culture, traditions and language is considered an asset.
- Experience working with First Nations communities is considered an asset.
- Valid BC Driver’s License, Class 5.
