Lab Operations Manager

Tersa Earth is developing novel biotechnologies for remediation of mining waste. We aspire to drive the mining industry to a new era of profitability and sustainability providing improved solutions in mining tailings management and providing unmatched solutions for resource reclamation.

As Lab Operations Manager, you will manage operations of Tersa’s facility, including the team with respect to: lab cleaning, preparation of materials, maintenance, and administrative duties such as ordering and safety monitoring. As Operations Manager you will support the overall functioning of the technical team in relation to operations and support oversight of task completion for the technical staff. You will work as part of a team, as well as carry out independent tasks.

**Responsibilities**
- Lead safety initiative planning through management of the Health and Safety Committee.
- Maintain a clean and safe lab through organizing cleaning duties, following and enforcing safety procedures and checks and by keeping an up to date chemical inventory and accessible records of SDSs.
- Ensure equipment is in a clean and serviceable condition.
- Liaise with service providers, including waste disposal pick-up, internet, utilities and others.
- Conduct overall lab maintenance, ensuring the laboratories and office are well-stocked and resourced, including support on facility set-up, orders and procurement management. This many include managing or supporting equipment and facility upgrades from time to time.
- Build relationships and liaise with chemical supply vendors.
- Manage shipping and receiving of supplies and samples, record, sort and distribute incoming and outgoing mail and invoices.
- Continuous implementation of cost saving initiatives
- Perform general record management duties such as assembling files, assigning file numbers, preparing file folders, and filing and distributing documents and files.
- Manage lab operation tasks, to ensure timely completion of lab management tasks and support the staff on coordinating experimental planning to achieve technical milestones
- Assist with experiment preparation, set-up, and re-stocking of materials where needed
- Liaise with the team, HR and management on any interpersonal issues that may arise. Support the hiring process including offboarding and lab safety training
- Perform data entry functions and general word processing such as inputting test information into relevant computerized systems, and transcribing from rough draft or general instruction.
- Perform other related duties as required.

**Qualifications**
- Diploma or undergraduate degree in science, engineering or related discipline.
- Previous related experience an asset.
- A combination of education, experience, skills & abilities will be considered.

- Experience managing teams, procurement, and an office or lab
- Ability to adhere to instructions.
- Possesses strong organizational skills.
- Accuracy in tasks through attention to detail and care.

- Flexibility to work with and provide support for different team members.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Experience with operating a wide range of analytical instruments, particularly ICP-MS is a plus
- Understanding and knowledge of managing IT and cyber systems is a plus
- A valid driver's license and regular access to a vehicle is an asset
- Experience with Google Workspace is an asset
