Technician 3 - Geomatics

Under the general supervision of a Geomatics Officer, the Technician 3 - Geomatics is responsible for co-coordinating, supervising, conducting and reviewing general land survey activities to support the provision of legal survey and geomatics services by the Geomatics Branch. Directs and supervises the activities of a survey crew and mentor interns. Ensures that all survey equipment is operational and in good working order. Provides support services for the Technician Level 4 and Technologist Level 3 positions.
**As the**_Technician 3 - Geomatics,_** you will**:
- Assist in the planning, organizing and preparation of legal survey and geomatics services for the Branch.
- Perform field and office computations for the purpose of assisting the Geomatics Officer in the verification of legal property boundaries and vertical and horizontal survey co-ordinates.
- Prepare information and report on specific survey projects for the preparation of legal survey and geomatics services for the Branch.
- Instruct field survey staff in the conduct of general land survey activities.
**Your education and qualifications include**:
- Diploma in Geomatics Technology from Red River College, or equivalent program of study from another educational institute.
- Minimum five (5) years’ experience related to legal surveys and/or geomatics activities and a minimum of two (2) years’ experience as a Party Chief.
- Knowledge of the use and operation of all survey instruments related to the position.
- Knowledge of advanced survey mathematics and the ability to carry out complex survey computations.
- Knowledge of the theory, principles, methods and techniques of land surveying.
- Knowledge and ability to write and interpret titles as they relate to legal land descriptions.
- Ability to effectively supervise of all field work and subordinate survey personnel engaged in providing field information.
- Ability to assemble survey data with minimum supervision and report accurately for analysis purposes.
- Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with all levels of staff and external stakeholders.
- Ability to prepare neat, accurate and comprehensive field survey notes.
- Strong written communication skills.
- Strong verbal communication skills.
**Conditions of employment**:
- The successful applicant must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada. If the successful applicant possesses a work permit, it is their responsibility to ensure the permit remains valid.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Manitoba Driver’s License. The successful applicant will be required to provide a driver’s notice in force document upon request.
- Must be physically capable of performing duties and responsibilities of the position and to work outside for extended periods during adverse weather conditions.
