Toronto, Canada Child Development Institute Full time

**Who we are**

Children are at the front and centre of what we do; they are the foundation of our purpose and the basis for our evidence-driven strategy. Our mission is to transform the lives of children, youth and their families by developing and delivering innovative, research-based mental health and early learning programs. At the Child Development Institute (CDI), we are passionate about helping our communities’ most vulnerable members and their caregivers. It motivates each of us to face what can be difficult situations while continuously finding the purest joy in play, in silence, in advice, and in the unbelievable strength and resilience of our young clients. Joining us now is a rewarding opportunity to be part of an organization that is built on a legacy of more than 100 years of helping children and families.

Recognized as a leader and model for measurement-based impact, we are client-centred, family-centred, and data-informed. We are a place where professionals grounded in mental health, care, and well-being of infants, children and youth, come together in collaboration, learning and inclusion. As a multiservice organization delivering social, emotional, and behavioural counselling services, early childhood education, learning disabilities and mental health services, and family violence services, we address the whole person from when they begin their life. Every child and family that reaches out to us is unique, and we value and embrace their individuality. We deliver the tailored support and tools they need to build life-long skills, positive mental health, and resilience. With their trust in us, we guide children and families along a supportive journey. It is an often difficult path and simultaneously the most rewarding experience for providers, children and families.

**Who we need**

Reporting to the Clinical Manager, Family Violence Services, we are hiring a **School Liaison Worker**. As our new School Liaison Worker, you will assume a pivotal role in supporting children experiencing homelessness due to trauma and gender-based violence within a school environment, addressing their psycho-social needs, and collaborating effectively with various stakeholders, including families, teachers, school personnel, and shelter staff.

Therapeutic interventions may involve working with individuals, groups of children, and families working within a trauma-informed framework doing social and emotional support. You should be willing and able to travel to schools, partner shelters, and CDI locations, be available to work every day when school is open and be flexible to work varying hours during the day or evening to accommodate client needs. You will also be delivering activity-based groups at partner shelters around the city, collaborating with multidisciplinary staff.

**Who you are**

As a Child and Youth Worker, you are looking for a place to channel your commitment to making a difference in the lives of children and their families who have experienced trauma. You want to leverage the expertise of a long-historied organization that operates at the cutting edge of evidence-based treatment for children, youth, and their families, a place where you will be supported in professional development and work-life balance.

**What's in it for you**

**_ Profound purpose._** You want to play a critical role in developing a treatment plan. You want to be the steady hand and the calming presence; someone who is a champion for the well-being of clients and can bring forward their perspectives, introduce clarity, observe behaviour and identify interventions. You want the chance to foster a sense of empowerment and self-efficacy among clients, guiding them toward positive change and helping them build the skills and resources necessary to overcome adversity.

**_ Growth as a CYW and as a compassionate human._** You want to expand your knowledge, your skills, and your impact. You are open to learning our evidence-based practices and following our proven processes in CBT and other methodologies. Each day will present new challenges and opportunities for growth. As a School Liaison Worker, you will wear many hats - from crisis intervention and social skills support to advocacy and program facilitation. Embracing this diversity, you will engage in meaningful work that constantly evolves, allowing you to hone your skills, expand your knowledge, and make a tangible impact on the lives of homeless children.

**As our new School Liaison Worker, you will**:

- _ Foster a safe space._ You will help facilitate children’s integration into a classroom at the school, promote peer group acceptance, and work with family, school administration, teachers, and shelter staff to develop a school safety plan that meets the family’s needs.
- _ Administer psycho-social assessments._ You will consult with classroom teachers and school officials regarding the psychosocial needs of the children and offer crisis intervention and support.
-
