Work Hours: Must be available to work 5 days a week between Monday - Sunday, with days off predetermined by supervisor; 44 hours per week

YMCA Camping and Outdoor Education offers outdoor experiences that foster personal growth and build community. After taking part in our programs, children and youth return home more confident, independent, and with new friendships.

YMCA Camp Pine Crest is located on 650 acres in Muskoka, Ontario. The facility operates year-round with a large overnight summer camp program, summer day camp programs, and busy Outdoor Centre seasons in the spring, fall, and winter

Working together on a team, Outdoor Educators provide hands-on programs in all areas of the outdoor centre. These staff work directly with students, families, and adults, and facilitate a range of programs including: leadership and teambuilding activities, canoeing, kayaking, archery, axe throwing, low ropes, high ropes, initiatives, environmental programs and much more. In addition, Outdoor Educators assist in the development of new programs, as well as the revision and amendment of existing programs. Outdoor Educators also support our maintenance and kitchen teams as required.

Accommodation and meals are provided on site at no additional cost; however, staff living on site may be scheduled for 2-3 on-call evening shifts per week.

**In this role, you will**:

- Provide direct program delivery to participants of all ages in a fun, engaging, and safe manner. Outdoor programs include activities such as low and high ropes courses, archery/atlatls, orienteering, fire building, canoeing/kayaking, shelter building, initiatives, nature hikes, out-trips as well as many more
- Act as a host and facilitator for individuals and groups, ensuring group goals are met and overall satisfaction with facilities, programs and staff
- Monitor the safety of all activities and programs throughout the duty period and responds immediately to rectify any safety concerns; fill out YMCA Accident/Incident forms and follow up forms as required and submits within 24 hours
- Ensure Health & Safety procedures are maintained, and shares with the staff team the duties of ensuring camp is clean, organized and safe to ensure the Health & Safety of all camp participants. Support in kitchen and maintenance roles as required
- Continuously builds relationships with participants, members, staff, volunteers and community partners, representing the YMCA, Association, and Camp Pine Crest in a professional manner
- Understand the importance of the volunteer-staff partnership and integrates the value of philanthropy and volunteerism in dealings with members, volunteers, donors and staff
- Perform other duties as assigned

- Focus on the health, safety and wellbeing of all children, youth, and vulnerable people in YMCA programs including understanding legal and moral obligations related to reporting suspected child abuse to Child Protection Services

**You bring**:

- Prior experience planning and/or facilitating engaging group activities preferred
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C required for the duration of the contract
- National Lifeguard Service (NLS) certification preferred
- Challenge Course/High Ropes training and experience - ACCT Level 2 is an asset
- Wilderness First Aid certification (WFR, WAFA, WFA) is an asset
- Flexibility regarding assigned working hours, including days, evenings, overnights, weekends and holidays required

- Ability to lead a group and engage with people of all ages
- Ability to communicate ideas, rules and concepts effectively and in an engaging, entertaining, and supportive manner
- Well-developed interpersonal skills with the ability to cultivate a warm, inclusive, and safe environment for guests and colleagues
- Ability to work independently and within a team to achieve a common goal
- A passion for learning and growth in the outdoors; our programs take place rain or shine and it is imperative that our staff remain optimistic and are strong role models for people who may be new to learning in these environments
- Ability to be on your feet, travelling around our beautifully rugged site and be active for extended periods of time
