The Outdoor Pursuits (OP) Coordinator works year-round with the Outdoor Centre and Summer Camp Directors to ensure the smooth operation of daily life at Pine Crest, focusing on the out-trip setting. This position requires on-site living at Pine Crest with a flexible monthly schedule, particularly during the variable hours in November, December, and April. Room and board are affordable, ranging from $69.40 to $85.25 per week, based on accommodations, and can be conveniently deducted from your bi-weekly payroll.

In the summer, the OP Coordinator oversees the out-tripping department, coordinating approximately 140 camper and leadership trips ranging from 1 to 38 days. This role involves managing multiple tasks simultaneously, maintaining clear communication across camp, and supporting Assistant OP Directors and Senior Leadership Trainers with ongoing feedback. The Coordinator is responsible for budget management, including travel costs and program supply purchasing, and must respond effectively to trip emergencies and coordinate evacuations when necessary, ensuring all Pine Crest expectations and risk management procedures are followed.

During the fall, winter, and spring, the OP Coordinator coordinates outdoor center groups, manages staff, and prepares for upcoming summer leadership trips. As the main contact for group leaders on-site, this role ensures a positive experience and high-level customer service. The Coordinator focuses on programs with an out-tripping component while assisting with various activities, such as canoeing, kayaking, archery, and teambuilding. Additionally, they mentor and supervise staff and contribute to developing and revising programs.

**In this role, you will**:

- Lead and oversee out-trip programs, manage logistics, and ensure smooth operations of the Outdoor Pursuits department. Facilitate safe, engaging activities for participants of all ages, including high/low ropes courses, archery, orienteering, canoeing, and more
- Act as the primary host and facilitator for individuals and groups, ensuring group goals are met and overall satisfaction with facilities, programs, and staff
- Supervise, mentor, and guide Outdoor Educators, Assistant OP Directors, and Leadership Trainers. Support the preparation and delivery of seasonal staff performance appraisals. Maintain a strong presence in programs to ensure alignment with YMCA standards
- Assist with research and development of new outdoor education/leadership and summer camp programs. Support the inventory, organization, and maintenance of all program equipment
- Ensure that all program-related expenses align with budget requirements, and complete all administrative tasks related to purchasing accurately and on time
- Collaborate with the year-round team and other seasonal supervisors to plan and deliver training for staff, preparing them for wilderness tripping, supervising Senior Leadership programs, and supporting all other leadership programs
- Monitor the safety of all activities and programs on-site and on trip throughout the duty period. Respond immediately to rectify any safety concerns, complete YMCA Accident/Incident forms, and submit follow-up forms within 24 hours
- Ensure adherence to Health & Safety procedures, maintain a clean and safe camp environment, and model positive habits. Provide support in kitchen and maintenance roles as needed
- Foster strong relationships with participants, members, staff, volunteers, and community partners, effectively representing the YMCA, Association, and Camp Pine Crest
- Perform other duties as assigned

**You bring**:

- Completion of post-secondary courses in Outdoor Recreation or a related field is an asset, or equivalent experience
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C required for the duration of the contract or equivalent experience
- National Lifeguard Service (NLS) certification preferred
- Wilderness First Aid certification (WFR, WAFA, WFA)
- Valid G Class Driver’s License (F Class an asset, or willingness to obtain)
- Minimum 2-years previous experience supervising staff in a camp or wilderness-related setting
- Demonstrated experience and passion for camping and outdoor education
- Ability to work flexible hours, including days, evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to lead other staff and offer them feedback on an ongoing basis
- Ability to communicate ideas, rules, and concepts effectively in an engaging, entertaining, and supportive manner
