Intergovernmental Affairs is responsible for coordinating and advancing the Province's interests with the Government of Canada, other provinces and territories and foreign governments at the national and sub-national levels. About Our Opportunity

As the Research Officer for Military Relations with the Department of Intergovernmental Affairs, you will play a key role in assisting the department in meeting one of its core functions.

Primary Accountabilities

Within this role, you will be responsible for conducting work and advancing initiatives that respond to the Minister's Mandate Letter directives. You will be accountable for identifying, monitoring, analyzing, and briefing the Department's senior leadership on military and defence-related issues, policies, programs, and initiatives that could have an impact on the society, economy and government of Nova Scotia.

**Specific responsibilities will include**:
Conducting outreach and engagement to external military stakeholders, including the Department of National Defence, the Canadian Armed Forces, Veterans Affairs Canada, as well as community organizations which assist veterans and military families.
Drafting of briefing materials and briefing books to provide strategic advice and support to the Minister responsible for Military Relations.
Identifying emerging opportunities, issues and challenges as they relate to the military and greater defence sector in Nova Scotia.
Work with Provincial government partners to promote and support military and defence sector initiatives that support Nova Scotia interests.
Monitor the work of the Nova Scotia Standing Committee on Veterans Affairs and conduct media monitoring.

Qualifications and Experience

Bachelors degree plus 2-3 years related experience with a focus in Public Administration or any discipline which requires the assimilation and analysis of a wide range of diverse data would be considered an asset.

You possess strong relationship-building and written and verbal communication skills to maintain positive working relationships with external stakeholders. You are outcome and action-oriented, motivated and work well to deadline.

Equivalency

An equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered.
