**Position Description**:
**Research Social Worker**
The SickKids Research Program in the Division of Rheumatology is seeking a Social Worker to join our team. The SickKids Lupus Research Program strives to improve outcomes for children rheumatologic diseases and their caregivers with through multidisciplinary research. Working closely with the Principal Investigator, the social worker will assist with two projects: 1) Patient/Family Mental Health Screening in the Juvenile Myositis Clinic, and 2) A Mindfulness Intervention Trial for Patients with Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis and their Caregivers. The social worker will also have the opportunity to participate in data interpretation, preparation, presentation and publication of study results, as desired. The social worker will work collaboratively with a team of physicians, nurses, researchers, and other project staff.
**Here's What You Get to Do**:
- Quality Improvement Project: Patient/Family Mental Health Screening in the Juvenile Myositis Clinic Position:
- Assist the clinical team with addressing results of mental health screening for children and adolescents with juvenile myositis (1/2 day clinic every other week)
- Assist the clinical team with implementing mental health screening and addressing results for caregivers
- Providing resources, counseling and referrals as appropriate
- Conduct suicide risk assessments as clinically indicated
- Liaising with treatment providers and team members regarding patients¿ clinical progress and ongoing treatment planning
- Documenting therapy participation and progress in the patient¿s clinical chart
- A Mindfulness Intervention Trial for Patients with Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis and their Caregivers Position: Lead Facilitator
- Receive training and provide a manualized virtual mindfulness group intervention to children ages 4-12 years with juvenile arthritis and their caregivers (groups may take place outside of business hours when children and caregivers are most available)
- Support other facilitators to provide the group intervention; monitor for issues/troubleshooting, lead periodic meetings with the facilitators.
- Entering data into REDCap
- Participating in team meetings as appropriate
**Here¿s What You¿ll Need**:
- Master¿s degree in Social Work
- Registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers
- Minimum of two years¿ experience working in children¿s mental health post-graduation preferred
- Experience working with children with chronic illness and their families preferred
- Experience with cognitive behavioral therapy (or other manualized therapeutic approaches) and suicide risk assessment preferred
- Ability to collaborate effectively as a member of the research and clinical team
- Demonstrated commitment to advancing in the pursuit of equity, diversity and inclusion objectives
**Employment Type**: Casual part-time (anticipated approximately 0.2-0.3 FTE) for 1 year renewable contract
