**Position Overview**:
We are looking for a dependable machine shop hand to join our team. This role will support our machine shop operations with a variety of hands-on tasks, such as assembly, maintenance, and troubleshooting of machinery. This role will also assist in shop organization and maintenance tasks when required.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Assist in the assembly, maintenance, and operation of machines and equipment
- Provide general shop support, including sweeping, organizing shelves, cleaning, and vehicle upkeep
- Help with welding, fabrication, and machining tasks as needed
- Load and unload materials and machinery, ensuring proper handling and storage
- Work on manual machining, cutting, grinding, and other mechanical tasks
- Ensure a clean, organized, and safe work environment at all times
- Adhere to safety protocols and practices

This position is ideal for high school students or pre-apprentices with strong hands-on skills and experience in mechanics or welding. It can be either a temporary summer role or a permanent position.

**SKILLS INCLUDE**:

- Installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting production equipment in various industries (Food, Automotive, Steel, Pulp and Paper, Recycling)
- Conducting preventative maintenance and prioritizing tasks accordingly
- Identifying root causes of equipment failures and suggesting modifications
- Experience with MIG and TIG welding, custom fabrications, and manual machining
- Working with hand tools (grinder, drill, die grinder, various saws)
- Experience with shop tools (saws, welders, drill press, iron worker)
- Attention to detail and high-quality work
- Strong multitasking and independent problem-solving skills
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Comfortable working with computers and shop technology
- Strong interpersonal skills and mechanical aptitude

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- High school diploma or equivalent
- Willing to accept high school students and pre-apprentices with relevant skills
- Training in Lift Truck, Aerial Platforms, and WHMIS would be considered an asset
- Safety and punctuality are a must
- Interest or experience in related mechanical fields

Expected hours: 40 per week
