**Student Assistant - Textiles Lab Wilson School of Design**

**Department: Wilson School of Design Reports to: Divisional Business Manager Summary**:
To assist with the maintenance of the Textile Lab (0960) at the Wilson School of Design. This position with work with faculty and students to ensure the proper use of the lab space s well as ensuring that materials are stocked and organized. As needed, the student will ensure that safety protocol is being followed, and students are using the space in a respectful and collegiate manner.

**Principle Duties**:

- Organization and maintenance of lab space
- Ensuring proper and safe use of machinery, dyes and pigments by students
- Reporting oflab supply levels to faculty for replenishment
- Assist with swatch library, and restock fabrics as needed

**Specific duties**:

- Cleaning all surfaces
- Ensuring all containers as clean, dried and stored
- Organizing dyes and pigments appropriately
- Labelling and storage of all chemicals in the lab
- Cleaning up chemical spills
- Monitoring student use
- Assisting with instructions for student use of the equipment
- Developing an inventory list for re-ordering of supplies and small equipment
- Communication of issues arising in the space to be dealt with by Faculty or Senior Staff
- Cutting Swatches for Textile Science

**Requirements**:

- Student at KPU with experience with fabric printing and dyeing methods
- Strong organizational and self-management skills
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to work with mínimal supervision

This is part-time position during the Fall and Spring terms; not to exceed 15 hours/week.

**Salary Information**

Student Assistants are paid as per the following:
Less than one year of post-secondary (less than 30 credits) - BC Minimum Wage

One year of post-secondary (30-60 credits) - BC Minimum Wage plus 8%

With a post-secondary diploma or degree - BC Minimum Wage plus 21%
