Manager of Financial Reporting

Under the general direction of the Corporate Controller, the Manager of Financial Reporting and Accounting Services is responsible for the direction of financial reporting for the City. One of the highest priorities of this position is the preparation of the City’s annual consolidated financial statements.
**As the **_Manager of Financial Reporting & Accounting Services_**, **you will**:
- Be responsible for the City of Winnipeg’s annual consolidated financial statements. Section 100 of The City of Winnipeg Charter Act, requires the City to submit to both City Council and the Province of Manitoba a report on the financial position of the City within six months after the end of each fiscal year of the City.
- Lead the proactive evaluation and implementation of accounting recommendations and financial reporting.
- Prepare the financial aspects (FSDA, financial statements) of The City of Winnipeg’s Annual Report and accompanying Detailed Financial Statements Book.
- Manage internal control processes and Controllership and other related services assistance to the City.
- Prepare The City of Winnipeg’s regular Financial Status and Forecast report.
- Deliver financial services support to the Councilor’s Pension Plan and Corporate Controller’s Division.
- Delivers day-to-day Corporate accounting services.
**Your education and qualifications include**:
- Bachelor’s degree (Commerce, Business Administration).
- Professional accounting designation in good standing (CPA).
- Masters in Accounting preferred.
- 6 years prior related experience including progressive experience preparing or auditing consolidated financial statements for a large, complex organization, and experience overseeing the work of staff, preferably in the public sector.
- Minimum three years’ experience in preparing financial statements under PSAB accounting principles.
- Experience in financial policy development & implementation.
- Ability to prioritize workload.
- Ability to plan and supervise the work of staff.
- Ability to consensus build.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships through all levels of the organization.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Strong knowledge to conduct financial analysis including NPV (Net Present Value) analysis.
- Strong knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite products (ie. Excel, Word and Outlook).
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, particularly those prescribed by the Public Sector Accounting Board.
