**Summary of Position**
Reporting to the General Manager, and/or designate The Wellness Manager is accountable for directing and mentoring care staff to ensure resident-focused care is achieved, maintaining accountability of the nursing staff to ensure that individualized resident care is appropriate and in place, and promoting departmental activities to maintain high quality resident care. Coordination of ongoing education for nursing staff at the facility. An ability to communicate effectively with residents and their families, staff, and others in the community is essential The Wellness Manager acts as a professional role model for all staff.
**Qualifications**
Should have 3 to 5years working in management position with seniors. Experience in a long-term care setting preferred.
Current Registration as an LPN, RN or RPN
Experience working in a union environment and familiarity with collective agreements
Extensive knowledge of the Community Care and Assisted Living Act; Residential Care Regulations; Ability to maintain effective interpersonal and team relationships
**Responsibilities**
Manages ongoing development of comprehensive care plans tailored to the resident’s short and long term requirements
Ensures the care plans are monitored and evaluated for effectiveness and changing care needs and ensures appropriate action is taken in a timely manner
Coordinates and communicates with other departments and staff to ensure that goals and planned changes are monitored and reviewed
Provides leadership so that Care staff receive orientation, In-service training, work assignments, and tracking to meet Provincial Licensing standards.
Directly involved in the recruitment, retention, performance management, recognition and progressive discipline within department
Acts as Chairperson for Pharmacy and Medication Safety Committees & Interdisciplinary conferences and leads the coordination of medication reviews with Pharmacy and Physicians.
Provides timely information and complaint resolution services to residents and their families;
Ensures that care programs are delivered in a professional manner: within the current budget allocation; and in accordance with provincial standards and legal requirements dictated for the provision of nursing and other medical services
Coordinates Resident pre-screening/assessments for suitability and timely admissions to vacant accommodation
Investigate: document report and take the appropriate corrective action in situations where a serious incident has occurred
Liaise with Island Health and other provincial regulators to maintain compliance within areas of assigned responsibility.
As an integral member of the site management team, participates in decision-making - particularly in matters related to health and safety, resident care, financial, and human resources management
Ensures that there are effective communication systems in place inform staff, residents and families of essential updates within the facilty
Promotes and assists in preserving the dignity and independence of the residents during whatever stage of life they are living.
Ensures documentation and reporting systems maintain accurate records and communication for the department and in accordance with Licensing Regulation.
Evaluating pharmacy services on an ongoing basis and ensuring legislative requirements are being followed utilizing the appropriate quality assurance and risk management tools (i.e. storage of narcotics and controlled substances and monthly narcotic audits);
Researching and monitoring current developments and trends in retirement care, nursing and infection control to ensure effectiveness, consistency and compliance
Ensuring a hands-on approach through regular visits and assessments of residents, their personalized plans of care and progress notes
Keeps the General Manager promptly and fully informed of all problems or unusual matters of significance and takes prompt corrective action where necessary or suggests alternative courses of action, which may be taken
**Special Requirements**
Must be willing to work the hours necessary to ensure the effective operation of the facility
Must have the capacity to deal with physical and mental impairment, elders in care and end of life scenerios
Must be prepared to respond to emergent situations
Ability to participate in an “on call” rotation
Knowledge of Point click care an asset
