**What do we do?**
Bartek manufactures Malic and Fumaric acid and high purity Maleic Anhydride at their plants located in Stoney Creek, Ontario. We are a food grade manufacturer and global distributor of our products.
**What are we looking for?**
The QC Chemical Lab Technician will possess a positive attitude, and demonstrate core values including integrity, trust, respect and responsibility. This role requires relevant lab experience in a production setting and flexibility with regards to shifts (8 hours, 12 hours, days, nights, weekends, holidays) in order to satisfy our customer requirements. The Operator Trainee reports to the QC Lab Supervisor/Chemist. As the QC Chemical Lab Technician, you will qualify finished Malic and Fumaric Acid products and provide analytical testing support for production. You will also conduct in-process testing at various stages of the manufacturing process to ensure the process is on-target and report the results to the Production Team in a timely fashion.
**Compensation**:
In addition to a competitive benefits and RRSP package, the hourly rate for this role is $24.12 per hour during the probationary period. Upon passing the 700 hours of probation, the employee will receive a rate of $25.53 per hour.
**Position Description**:
- Ensure products and analysis processes meet product quality and safety standards prior to shipment
- Collect and analyze in-process samples
- Conduct in-process and finished product testing in accordance with laboratory procedures and test schedules
- Laboratory testing includes sieve analysis, HPLC, Karl Fisher Moisture, titrations
- Perform routine calibration/verification and maintenance of equipment
- Proactively support Production team to ensure in-process targets are achieved
- Re-sample and re-test samples as required to support Production
- Record results in the lab database and other laboratory documents
- Generate laboratory results that are accurate and precise and ensure the timely data entry of all samples and records
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized laboratory work environment
- Communicate with site leadership and operators to provide direction when samples are out of spec, or trending towards being out of spec
- Ensure internal and third-party product testing is performed, according to defined schedules and sampling programs, to ensure compliance with regulatory and customer requirements
- Conduct inspection rounds of the packaging line to monitor the quality of the packaged product (e.g., stacking quality, bag identification, labeling, pallet quality, etc.).
- Support analytical method transfer and validation activities to drive continuous improvement initiatives as required
- Other duties as assigned
**Abilities and Requirements**:
- Experience in analytical lab testing and analysis. Completing laboratory testing with accuracy and efficiency
- Strong integrity and core values
- Basic computer skills including but not limited to MS Word and Excel, and a willingness and ability to learn new software
- Strong verbal and written English communication skills
- Relevant College diploma or a minimum of 1 year of production lab experience
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 55 pounds
- Must be able to sit, stand, kneel, climb stairs, ladders and work at heights as necessary
- Must be able to work in an industrial manufacturing environment
- Must be able to work in the lab and retrieve samples from the plant alone if required
- Must be able to work flexible work schedules if required
- Self-motivation and ability to work in an environment without direct supervision for periods of time.
- Ability to act in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures supporting company-wide operational, service, and safety guidelines
- Excellent organizational skills
- Ability to work rotating continental shifts that include days, nights, weekends, and holidays
