**Who We Are**
**SUMMARY**
The **Building Science Consultant **will be an active technical specialist and resource for the building science and restoration consulting practice, focused on building envelope and restoration projects including exterior wall assemblies, roofing replacements, building upgrades, pavement assessment and design, etc., which will be completed by our clients through the Design and Project Delivery Services Group.
**KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**
**Technical Investigations and Problem Solving**
- Is an intermediate technical resource for building science investigations for BGIS clients. Clients include commercial, institutional, and industrial clients with real estate holdings throughout North America. Conducts technical building science investigations for existing facilities. Responsible for technical findings resulting from investigations.
**Writing, Reviewing and Editing Reports**
- Responsible for the creation of the work products of the Building Science group, specifically technical reports. May review junior staff member reports.
**Site investigations**
- Responsible for conducting site investigations related to building science issues in order to determine the root cause of the issues raised and to provide options for the resolution of these issues.
**Design**
- Prepares design drawings and documents for the resolution of building science issues including the preparation of design briefs and tender documents that will be reviewed by a senior member of the group.
- May also assist in the technical peer review of tender documents prepared by junior team members.
**Construction Supervision**
- As part of the resolution of building science issues, the Building Science Consultant shall provide construction supervision to building envelope and pavement repair projects. This will involve working in conjunction with the BGIS PDS project manager, and coordination of contractors, review of their work and technical direction on construction issues. A significant portion of time may be spent on construction sites.
**Construction Management Administration**
- This role will also include administration of construction projects including approval of progress draws, deficiency inspections and reports and contract close out documents. The role may also include assisting senior group members with monthly invoicing and financials.
**KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS**
- An applicable technical degree - Building Science, Civil or Structural Engineering, Architecture, or similar.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) designation or working towards PMP designation (not required but considered an asset).
- Building Science Specialist (BSS) designation or working towards BSS designation (not required but considered an asset).
- Ability to work at heights.
- Minimum 5 years demonstrated experience with building science consulting, restoration work, construction review/administration experience.
- Ability to prioritize tasks to achieve client schedule deliverables with little Manager oversight/coordination.
**Licenses and/or Professional Accreditation**
- Valid driver’s license.
