**Day Care Centre Job Description**
Job Title**:PROGRAM ASSISTANT 1:30-5:30 pm Monday-Friday**
Reports to: Day Care Director
I. Organizational Context
- Children on the Hill_ is a ‘not-for-profit’ and fully bilingual daycare. The Centre provides the parents, with priority to Parliamentary Precinct employees working on the Hill serving for up to 40 children, ranging from 18 months to 5-years old.
II. Functions / Key Results Expected **Basic care and custody**
- Supporting the educators in child development
- Parent partnership
- Helping to maintain a clean and organized centre
- _**Basic care and custody**:_
- Maintaining order in the personal effects of each child ( e.g. objects, clothes)
- Observing children for signs of ill health on a daily basis and learning about and following up on each of the children’s specific medical and health needs
- Complete accident and medical form as required.
- Inspecting the premises for complete security (and emergency preparedness) of doors, fences, locks, broken equipment and health hazards (e.g. cleaning chemicals) for toddlers and young children
- Disinfecting and cleaning toys, beds, laundry, etc.
- Verifying the readiness of designated spaces for toileting, dressing children, eating, resting, food preparation, storage of bed linen, outdoor play equipment. Includes emergency planning and drills.
- For younger toddlers, verifying toileting needs and changing diapers
- Keeping daycare tidy and presentable
- Keeping storage rooms accessible and in order
- _**Teaching and child development**_
- Guiding the children and helping them in their physical, social, mental, emotional and linguistic development
- Conducting fair, consistent behavioral regulation methods through positive approach and showing children how to develop their self-control in frustrating situations
- Monitoring children as they learn to pick-up their toys, dress, find their personal things
- Coaching and showing how to do simple painting, drawing, singing and similar entertaining activities
- In compliance with strict daycare licensing conditions, ensures constant adult/children ratios by replacing teachers requiring stepping out temporarily or scheduled for late arrivals in the morning, as well as for teacher’s breaks
- Covers rotation of shifts at least two hours and 45 minutes per day
- _**Parent partnership**_
- Daily contact and feedback with parents to discuss behavior and performance of their children
- Keeps all parties aware of ongoing situations (e.g. outings; illness; exceptional events such as epidemics)
- _**Housekeeping Duties**_
- Preparing snacks by distributing it to each classroom/ group.
- Gathering dishes at the end of the snack to be picked up for washing.
- Cleaning fridge once a week.
- Cleaning bed sheets once a week
- Writing all changes to menus from food services and keeping copies for four weeks as per ministry standard.
**III. Recruitment Qualifications**
**Education**:
- High School graduate or equivalent
- Early Childhood Education Diploma (at least equivalent academic qualification to Ontario College of Applied Arts and Technology) ASSET
- First-aid certificate (renewable at least every three years)
**Experience**:
- **Experience working with toddlers and children**
Personal abilities
- Proven to be a mature, kind, sympathetic, understanding, attentive and caring person relating well with toddlers and pre-school children
- Well-organized/Time management skills
Language
**Requirements**:
- Ability to communicate well in French and English (i.e. to be functional, make oneself understood easily)
**Job Type**: Part-time
**Salary**: $20.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 per week
