**Salary**: $1,913.27 to $2,342.49 bi-weekly ($49,936 - $61,138/year)
The Public Safety & Emergency Services is responsible for all provincial correctional and remand centers, young offender programs and community corrections across the province.
The Sentence Administration Unit manages and accurately interprets complex legal documents pertaining to holding and releasing of inmates received from various stakeholders including courts, policing agencies, sheriffs, the judiciary etc.

Reporting to the Sentence Administration Supervisor or Chief Sentence Administrator, you will play a vital role in the justice system by:
- Administering court orders and calculating sentences
- Ensuring inmates appear in court as required
- Ensuring that the detention of the accused is lawful by interpreting complex legal documents and other information received from courts, police, and judicial stakeholders
You must maintain a high level of knowledge to incorporate the many policy and legal rules associated with calculating sentences and must accumulate information from the JOIN (Justice on-line Information Network) system and CPIC (Canadian Police Information Centre) system to determine detention and release eligibility. Together with information gathered from legal documents as well as these systems and in conjunction with a high level of working knowledge, you must administer dispositions to carry out the intention of the court.
**In addition to the above outlined duties, you will be responsible for**:
- Maintaining offender warrant files
- Comprehending and correctly interpreting legal documents
- Preparing, managing, and updating inmate legal files
- Complex sentence calculations, including Conditional Sentence Orders
- Liaising with Sheriffs and Court stakeholders to coordinate the transportation of inmates to their court dates
- Data entry within the ORCA system (Offender Records and Correctional Administration)

**Qualifications**:
**Required**:
High School Diploma plus three (3) years of Sentence Administration related experience which includes administrative work, data entry, and/or legal administration.
Preference will be given to those with post-secondary education in a related field (Criminal Justice, Legal Administration, Sociology, etc.) and to those who have work experience in a related environment (correctional centre, criminal law office, etc.).
**Equivalency**:
Directly related education or experience will be considered on the basis of:
- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
- 1 year of experience for 1 year education
- Working experience in providing criminal law administration assistance
- Experience working, reading, and interpreting legal documents
- Working experience with Government systems such as JOIN, ORCA, or CPIC

- This posting will be used to fill **two permanent full-time positions**, located in Edmonton, Alberta.
- **Hours of Work**: 36.25 hours per week. As the Edmonton Remand Centre operates 24/7, this role involves shift work on a rotational schedule (including days, afternoons and nights). Overtime may be required.
