**First Nations Engagement Coordinator**:
**Summary**
The First Nations Engagement Coordinator supports Capital Regional District (CRD) staff to deliver respectful and reciprocal First Nations engagement across a wide range of CRD operations including parks, environmental protection, recreation, watershed protection, planning, emergency services, solid waste management, wastewater management and climate action. This position also coordinates educational events for CRD staff and supports the Manager to organize relationship-building events with First Nations and CRD Board Directors.

**Key Duties & Responsibilities**
**Support and Guidance to CRD Operations**
- In close collaboration with Manager, provide CRD staff with verbal and written analysis and advice for engagement and collaboration with First Nations on a wide variety of projects and planning, such as signage, land acquisitions, management plans, strategic plans, resource sharing, employment, events, and other initiatives.
- Provide project management and administrative support to CRD staff on First Nations engagement including drafting, reviewing and sending correspondence, follow-up calls, document retention, tracking engagement and action items, and supporting meetings with First Nations staff.
- Support the Manager to build and maintain working relationships with First Nations staff, relay First Nations requests and interests to CRD staff, and work collaboratively with all parties to respond to requests and address issues raised.
**Organizational Education and Transformation**
- Coordinate training, educational and relationship-building events for CRD staff.
- Support the Manager to deliver events for CRD Board Directors.
- Write accessible educational content for CRD staff.
- Collaborate with the Manager to deliver training and presentations for CRD staff.
- Support the development and implementation of corporate policies and procedures.
**General Duties**
- Provide support to the First Nations Relations division to achieve corporate mandates on First Nations relations.
- Plan, coordinate and implement a variety of project activities, including serving as project lead where assigned.
- Prepare meeting minutes, reports, proposals, letters and communications materials.
- Provide support to the First Nations Relations division including developing and maintaining organizational systems to manage contact information and detailed records of engagement and co-managing the First Nations Relations division intake process and shared inbox.
- Follow all policies, procedures, and standards of the CRD.
- Perform other related duties, as required.
**Additional Information**
This role is primarily in office, approximately 90% of the time, supporting CRD operations and online engagement. Approximately 10% of the time is in community, for in-person meetings, site visits or events.
In addition to the key skills and abilities, the following are considered assets for this role:
- Experience working with First Nations on interpretative signage, land-based initiatives, management plans and/or event planning.
- Experience promoting Indigenous cultural competency through educational opportunities.
- Basic understanding of spatial data.
- Ability to occasionally adjust hours to accommodate evening or weekend events or meetings.
**Key Skills & Abilities**
- Experience building and maintaining respectful working relationships with Indigenous Peoples.
- Knowledge of First Nations consultation and engagement processes.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Project management and administrative skills and the proven ability to meet deliverables.
- Experience coordinating training or education
- Proficiency and experience writing a range of documents, such as correspondence, reports, proposals, and communication materials.
- Organizational skills, including the ability to work under pressure, prioritize work, and to set and meet deadlines.
- Ability to think analytically, innovatively, and critically to solve problems and develop solutions.
- Ability to exercise tact, diplomacy, and professional conduct to influence, collaborate with, and build consensus.
- Ability to direct and/or coordinate the work of consultants engaged in related works.
- MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams and SharePoint skills.
**Qualifications**
- Degree in a related discipline
- A minimum of 6 years' directly related experience
- An equivalent combination of education and experience
**Certifications**
- Valid BC Driver's Licence Class 5
