Casual - Awake Overnight Support Worker
Come and join our diverse team of dedicated professionals at New Age Services (NAS) Inc. NAS provides programs and resources for individuals with developmental disabilities in the Calgary Region. We are united by our shared value to serve a bigger purpose than ourselves.
Why Work for New Age Services?
We offer a supportive team environment, ongoing training and developmental opportunities, competitive wages, and benefits. We value diversity and believe it makes us stronger.
**What to Expect in this Role**:
Specifically looking for someone with Overnight Availability, this frontline position will be eligible and expected to work at multiple locations with various teams of practitioners in our Group Home or Community Access settings to support clients through the night.
While shift days and locations will vary - the expectation will be that you will support the individuals assigned to you for the duration of the shift. Regardless, you will be provided with all the same trainings as regular staff, along with all the same information and directions for the individuals you will be supporting.
Our Group Living Department has 11 different locations across the city, and, when working in our Community Access Location, you could be supporting individuals at our main facilities in the N.E., in the individuals’ homes, or in the community, doing various activities.
The diagnoses and limitations of the individuals you support will vary, but could include anything from autism, cerebral palsy, and dementia, to schizophrenia, OCD, and mobility issues.
With a passion for helping others, you will be asked to support individuals based on their individualized plans. Daily responsibilities could include, but are not limited to:
- Providing medical, environmental, emotional, physical, and behavioural support.
- Engaging with individuals in their daily routines and activities, such as swimming, volunteering, being around animals/pets, etc.
- Driving to meet with, or driving individuals to any scheduled activities or medical appointments.
- Learning and following Individualized Behavioural Support Plans to better understand client needs.
- Completing necessary Client Documentation, such as behaviour tracking, log notes, and incident reporting.
- Assisting clients in daily tasks, such as household maintenance, grocery shopping, and meal preparation.
**Flexible Schedule**:
- Shifts could be available at 1 of our 11 Group Home locations, as well as our main facility location; there may also be shifts at other additional locations, as required.
- It is an expectation that casual staff are able and willing to drive throughout the city, so that they can work at any location that may need further support.
- Should you need to drive a client for a shift, mileage will be reimbursed at $0.50/km
**What You Bring**:
You take pride in being a team player who is out-going, and able to adapt easily to changes in your day. You are not afraid to try new things, or meet new people, and you consistently demonstrate strong communication skills. You are responsible, patient, and can keep calm under pressure. You have a person-centered approach and will take the time to ask questions to better learn how to provide what is needed in every unique situation.
