Roving Technician/building Operator

Black & McDonald is currently seeking a Roving Technician/Building Operator to join our Facilities Management & Operations team in Victoria. The Roving Technician/Building Operator position is located on Vancouver Island, BC and will report directly to the Project Manager.

This role will be responsible for performing facility inspections for various customers to ensure safe operation of the buildings and grounds. They will perform preventative and corrective maintenance tasks in accordance with Provincial Health and Safety regulations and Black & McDonald best practices. The successful applicant will use experience and technical skills to meet client requirements at the work site. The ability to work safely with mínimal daily supervision is essential and they must be comfortable with being mobile.

The Roving Technician/Building operator will also attend dedicated sites routinely to support team members and Building Operators with maintenance and operations as required. This would include coverage during vacations, illness and as projects or workload requires. This opportunity is based in Victoria, BC however local travel on Vancouver Island with company issued vehicle and tools is required. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

- Prepare site inspection reports:

- Complete and submit site inspection checklists, reports and photographs
- Make recommendations and include or obtain quotations if required
- Perform or coordinate general on site repairs for plumbing, electrical, finishing, and assembling and repairing mill/trim work at various facilities.
- Perform general maintenance activities including gutter cleaning, debris removal, painting etc, as assigned by the Project Manager
- Maintain, repair and renovate wooden structures.
- Fit and install trim items, such as door hardware, stairs, moulding and hardware and drywall repair and finishing
- Plan and execute work in accordance with Black & McDonald corporate safety policy and provincial regulations.
- Assist the Project Manager to develop cost estimates for required repairs and minor works projects
- Schedule and co-ordinate work activities with other subcontractors
- Perform mechanical rounds and log readings
- Perform or coordinate duties such as painting, snow removal, filter maintenance, minor plumbing maintenance and/ or general building repair etc
- Maintain a professional demeanour at all times with the client, fellow employees and the general public

**EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS**
- Carpentry, Electrical or General Trades certification would be an asset

**WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS**
- Several years' relevant field experience in Carpentry, Electrical or General Trades
- 3-5 years of experience in building operations; previous experience working in facilities would be preferred
- 3-5 years of experience in trades, residential or commercial construction or equivalent

- Ability to follow instructions, both written and verbal
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Able to perform physically demanding tasks on a regular basis (lifting/moving heavy equipment/materials)
- Ability to use a variety of hand and power tools
- Available for occasional on call standby duties and emergency out of hours call outs
- Clean Class 5 BC Driver's License and abstract
- Travel on Vancouver Island will be required
- Ability to maintain a professional demeanour at all times with fellow employees and customers
