Rate: $19.48 per hour

Vacation: 4 weeks to start

The Community Services (CS) department at Fred Victor is a multi-service, multi-site entity that prioritizes the involvement of peers and individuals with lived experiences throughout its portfolio. It encompasses the 40 Oak Community HUB and community programs, Consumption and Treatment Services, Employment and Training Services, Drop-Ins and Warming Centres, Heat Relief Outreach, and Food Services. It has recently launched Fred’s Kitchen, a social catering enterprise that spearheads a significant Peer Training Initiative that prioritizes the involvement of individuals with lived experience.

Fred Victor is looking for a Driver - Catering to support Fred’s Kitchen, while representing the community, peer, and staff team that the program is situated in. Under the leadership of the Catering Manager, the Driver - Catering is involved in all aspects of working in a professional catering business, particularly the delivery of catering orders, event setup and service. They will also be involved and trained in kitchen food preparation, customer service, and will participate in cleanup when not making deliveries.

The Driver - Catering will have a strong ability to work independently and have experience with delivery service and event set up. The position has physical demands, including standing, walking, reaching, bending, twisting, and the ability to carry/lift 40 pounds/18 kilograms, and push/pull 200 pounds/90 kilograms.

What You Will Do:

- Trains with the Senior Manager, Food Services, and other management staff in all aspects of the catering business, particularly in the delivery of catering orders.
- Learn to load and unload goods using correct lifting and product handling techniques.
- Be trained in safe and sanitary storage, transportation of food and other products.
- Will keep vehicle maintained clean and free of trash, food debris, spills, insects, or any other source of contamination to the food or equipment.
- Under the supervision of management will coordinate the smooth and efficient delivery of catering orders.
- Will be trained how to perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicle using a checklist and personal observation.
- Will adhere to all local, provincial, and federal food safety and traffic law regulations.
- Learn how to plan travel schedule and routes, using GPS, maps, and other trip planning aids.
- Record trip information such as mileage, fuel costs, and any problems.
- Become familiarized with the menu, including preparation, ingredients, and garniture.
- Ensure a high quality and accuracy of the food order by using the checklist provided.
- Greet all customers and provide them with prompt, friendly, and courteous service, or assistance.
- Participate in the cleaning of the catering kitchen; assist with food preparation when not making deliveries.
- Follow the daily/weekly/monthly cleaning and sanitation schedule for the delivery vehicle.

What You Bring to the Team:

- Valid class ‘G’ Driver’s License and a clean driver abstract.
- 1 year experience in a driving, delivery or event set up.
- Lived experience of accessing services and community meal programs is considered an asset.
- Experience in diverse, low-income community setting an asset.
