Located in the heart of downtown Vancouver, _The Permanent_ is a historic private event venue offering a striking backdrop for weddings, cocktail receptions, corporate gatherings, and creative workshops. As a liquor-primary establishment, The Permanent provides full bar services for all private events hosted in the space—delivering a seamless, elevated experience in one of the city’s most architecturally iconic interiors.

**Position Overview**:
We are seeking a Head of Security to lead front-of-house operations in a contract-based role, combining hands-on event coverage with team oversight.

This position is ideal for a security professional with exceptional customer service skills who thrives in both structured and dynamic event environments. With a balance of administrative and on-site work. This role requires flexibility, professionalism, and a concierge-style approach to venue security.

**Key Responsibilities**:
**Administrative (Approx. 1-5 hrs/week, depending on work)**:

- Oversee and manage security operations for all events
- Onboard, schedule, and manage a small team of licensed guards
- Coordinate with venue management and other vendors
- Invoice monthly for hours worked

**Event-Based Duties (Approx. 8-40 hrs/month, depending on bookings)**:

- Secure front and rear entrances during events
- Monitor guest activity and ensure the safety of attendees and staff
- Support the on-site supervisor with guest-related or operational issues
- Maintain clear and calm communication with guests, staff, and passerby
- Deliver a warm, professional, and composed presence throughout the event
- Represent The Permanent with a polished appearance—blazer attire is mandatory for all shifts

**Qualifications**:

- **Licensed under BC’s Security Services Act**:

- **Certified in use of force/ejections** _(mandatory)_
- **Occupational First Aid Level 1 (or higher)**:

- **Minimum 2 years of experience in liquor-primary or hospitality environments**:

- **Strong leadership and team management skills**:

- **Excellent conflict resolution and problem-solving abilities**:

- **Must be able to communicate clearly and confidently in English, both verbally and in writing**:

- **Strong interpersonal skills with a professional, approachable demeanor**:

- **Concierge-style presence with a customer service mindset**:

- **Comfortable enforcing venue policies calmly and respectfully**:

- **Physically able to stand for extended periods and move throughout the venue as needed**:

- **Must be comfortable working in an urban neighborhood with a diverse demographic**:

- **Reliable, punctual, and adaptable to varying event schedules (daytime, evenings, weekends)**

**Work Structure**:
We are open to both independent contractors and individuals seeking hourly, permanent part-time work in event-based security or concierge roles. This position will take the lead on front-of-house security operations, managing guest entry, and setting the tone for a polished, professional presence at each event.
