**The Role**:

The Plumber / Steamfitter must be very self-driven and comfortable working alone. You will be required to operate all shop equipment and tools related to the Plumbing / Steam fitting trade. Under the general supervision of the Site Operations Supervisor, the Plumber / Steamfitter is responsible for maintaining, installing, inspecting, troubleshooting, calibrating and repairing a wide range of plumbing, steam, heating and cooling systems, including specialized laboratory equipment. You must maintain all equipment to the required standards and be responsive to research needs and equipment failures. You will work as part of a team to support other trades on-site. Still, you will routinely perform work independently and maintain high accuracy and safety while performing your duties.

The Plumber / Steamfitter plays a crucial role in supporting the Research groups. He or she will work closely with each group to support maintenance/repairs and set-up of equipment to ensure operational efficiency. Maintenance activities are carried out as part of a regular preventative maintenance program as well as in response to emergency situations and malfunctions.

This position requires some knowledge of building automation systems and will require you to be on call for emergencies on a rotating schedule for both facilities in the Halifax area. The sites are 25km apart. A vehicle will be available for your use when travelling between the sites.

**Screening Criteria**:
**Education**:
Secondary School Diploma according to provincial standards.

Licensed Steamfitter/Plumber 307A or 306A an equivalent inter-provincial Red Seal Journeymen’s Certificate of Qualification.

- Working at Heights
- Confined Space

**Experience**:

- Significant experience maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing plumbing, steam, condensate, heating and ventilation systems including thorough inspection of steam traps, pumps, pressure and safety relief and control valves in a plant, institute or industrial setting
- Basic experience providing estimate for the materials and repair work of pipe systems.
- Significant experience conducting daily facility walkthroughs for inspection and condition monitoring of equipment and all building systems
- Basic experience working with subcontractors and monitoring onsite vendors on equipment repairs as required.
- Experience maintaining all work areas, tools, and equipment.
- Significant knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to the plumbing steam fitter trade
- Basic experience with a building management and preventative maintenance system.
