Data Quality Lead

Royal Victoria Regional Health Center (RVH) has the largest surgical program in the North Simcoe Muskoka region with 65% of surgeons and approximately 80,000 surgical cases annually. The Data Quality Lead, NSQIP will be responsible for collecting and submitting reliable data to the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (ACS NSQIP). Your role will bring the clinical knowledge necessary to collect and identify high quality data, documentation and entry into the ACS NSQIP database of all eligible surgeries at RVH. You will work closely with the members of Surgical Services to identify opportunities for clinical quality improvement and other special projects as may be identified. You will present these findings to relevant groups or meetings. This position is unique and quite unlike any other chart abstraction and/or quality improvement projects. You will be part of a formal support network for the NSQIP - Surgical Clinical Reviewers as well as an extensive network and camaraderie between the participating site reviewers.

**Education**:

- Diploma or degree in a health-related field
- Health professional: regulated or diploma trained

**Experience**:

- Healthcare professional with knowledge, experience and expertise working with patients in acute care setting
- Minimum of three (3) years’ experience working with patients in an acute care setting.
- Advanced computer experience required - familiarity and comfort with MS Office products is essential (Word and Excel - required; PowerPoint and Access - preferred).
- Strong working knowledge and understanding of patient information systems (i.e. Meditech) and SharePoint
- Experience with collection, tracking and submission of data

- Working knowledge and understanding of patient information systems (i.e. Meditech).
- Quality improvement or patient safety knowledge and experience preferred.
- Statistical analysis skills preferred XXVI. Experience developing educational material and delivering presentations.
- Comfortable contacting patients and families regarding their surgical procedures.

**Responsibilities**:
Surgery Clinical Reviewer
- Uses appropriate mechanisms to locate and access current and relevant information about the patient’s care in the electronic health record.
- Responsible for navigating the patient’s electronic record and mine relevant clinical data. Identify trends and areas for improvement.
- Engage surgeons and surgical leaders in quality improvement initiatives.
- Develop, monitor and evaluate quality improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with surgery program leaders and staff to maximize performance and outcomes for patients.

ACS NSQIP Participation
- Successfully complete the ACS NSQIP SCR Training/Certification Program.
- Participates in program teleconferences.
- May attend the ACS NSQIP National Conference.

NSQIP-Ontario (ON-SQIN) Participation
- Participates in form evaluation of ON-SQIN Network.
- Engages in collaborative learning with a network of colleagues across the province (ON-SQIN Collaborative):

- Participates in training/webinars/meetings.
- Shares NSQIP data and quality improvement lessons and solutions with the ON-SQIN collaborative participants.

Data Collection and Reporting
- Documents and maintains accurate records to support ongoing evaluation of patient and program outcomes.
- Facilitates and/or supports the collection of patient-level administrative and patient-reported outcome data, including Patient Reported Outcomes Measures (PROMs) and additional mandatory reporting requirements, as needed.
- Submits data reporting related to patients undergoing total joint replacement and additional program outcomes, as required.
