**Overview**:
The purpose of this position is to support primarily the Dept. of Sustainability Sciences's programs. Teaching Environmental Sustainability courses' labs will be the primary responsibility followed by any Biology courses when necessary and as directed. The technical staff sets up and takes down lab experiments and equipment, trains students, and works collaboratively with Lakehead University faculty and staff.

The position will also have the responsibility of maintaining the Lakehead University-Orillia labs, equipment, procuring materials and supplies for Environmental Sustainability, Biology and Anthropology labs routinely and for Geography and Geology occasionally as needed. Additionally, any other duties/responsibilities as directed by and in consultation with the supervisor.

Technical staff are a crucial part of our student-centered learning environment. They are responsible for ensuring the safety of our students during laboratory work and they will perform
other related duties including testing safety equipment, ordering, organizing, maintaining supplies and equipment as well as assisting with the University’s recruitment events.

The position will report to the Department Chair of Sustainability Sciences and is expected to start July 01, 2025.

**Qualifications**:
**Educational requirements**: M.Sc. degree with laboratory experience in Biology or in a closely related experimental discipline.
**Professional experience**: Proven ability to instruct/demonstrate Environmental Sustainability and Biology lab and Field experiments preferred.
**Professional training and certification requirements**: WHMIS, Biosafety training, AODA, Health and Safety training.
**Other requirements**: Ontario Driver's License, Pleasure Craft Operator Card, St John Ambulance First Aid, computer skills, organization skills, good interpersonal and communication skills; adherence to lab and field safety.
**Desired skills**: Any other certification that are relevant to the responsibilities would be an asset; working knowledge of Lakehead University's computer platforms for chemical/biohazardous materials inventory, Colleague Web UI (lab supplies ordering), etc.
