Position Summary
Reporting to the appropriate Divisional Manager, this position directs the tasks of the workforce through the Supervisors/Lead Hands. You will endeavor to achieve the highest degree of safety, production, and accuracy in a cost effective manner. You will be dedicated to providing superior customer service. You will lead by example, hold supervision accountable, build upon effective means of communication, and provide positive motivation and build morale amongst all division employees.

Position Functions

Supervise and direct Supervisors/Lead Hands (Rebar and/or Service Centre) and, in conjunction with the Divisional Manager, handle any personnel matters and disciplinary actions.

Coach and mentor Supervisors/Lead Hands on an ongoing basis to assist them in dealing with performance and behavioral related issues with employees. Continue to guide Supervisors/Lead Hands through the appropriate steps and assist, if required, with the documentation

Be responsible for efficient manpower planning, and shift scheduling and ensuring overtime distribution is fair and equitable through the divisions.

Oversee cost effective receiving, warehousing, processing, loading and shipping of all products handled by the rebar and/or Service Centre divisions.

Oversee maintenance planning, scheduling and contacting the respective support services for all preventative and breakdown maintenance requirements. Report all major breakdowns to the Divisional Manager.

Assist the Divisional Manager with forecasting of workforce requirements to meet future production goals.

Provide liaison for the purchasing and sales departments on all matters relating to production, shipping, receiving and inventory control.

Develop and maintain a divisional cross-training program for all employees.

Be responsible for ensuring the divisions operate in a safe manner at all times. Ensure an ongoing awareness of supervisory responsibilities as set forth in the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

Ensure Supervisors/Lead Hands maintain appropriate levels of housekeeping within the divisions.

Perform the role of Management representative on the Joint Health and Safety Committee pursuant to health and safety issues.

Ensure Supervisors/ Lead Hands follow through with the reporting of workplace accidents and/or injuries and that appropriate and thorough investigations are carried out. Hold Supervisors/Lead Hands accountable for arranging and managing the company’s Return to Work program as related to the division’s employees.

Working Conditions
The successful incumbent will be working 40+ hours per week in a plant setting as well as an office setting. Exposure to the elements as well as loid noises.

Required to stand, walk, lift, move and bend in various positions regularly.

Preferred Qualifications

Post-Secondary education in Operations/Management related field or equivalent education and experience.

5+ years’ experience in a Production Manager role preferably in a manufacturing setting.

Demonstrated experience working in a fast paced customer service focused environment.

Experience leading a team of 5+ Supervisors/Lead Hands.
