The Consultant of Student Equity, under the direction of the Coordinator of Equity & School Support Services, will provide leadership, assistance and support towards an equitable education system that includes recognizing and addressing systemic barriers and maintaining the dignity and human rights of all learners. Responsibilities include work in the areas of, but not limited to:

- Age, ancestry, culture, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, language, physical and intellectual ability, religion, and socioeconomic status.
- Working collaboratively with staff to understand and address deeply entrenched racialized and intersecting life experiences, current, historical, and intergenerational traumas, discrimination, socioeconomic insecurities, oppression and Newcomer experiences that impact the identity and sense of belonging of learners.
- Supporting staff and students with regard to understanding Social Justice and providing safe and socially just climates & spaces across the region.
- Working collaboratively with Programs & Student Services staff as well as schools to effectively embed relational approach and culturally relevant pedagogy across the system.

**_Responsibilities/Duties_**

The Consultant of Student Equity shall perform tasks as assigned by the Coordinator of Equity & School Support Services and regional/board executive staff. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

- Work in collaboration with Program and Student Services Regional office staff and school-based staff to identify and implement evidence informed and progressive initiatives and provide resources that support programming and best practices related to equitable education;
- Share effective coaching strategies in the area of equity with colleagues and administrators to develop their coaching abilities in the area of equity;
- Work directly with teachers and school based staff, including guidance counselors regarding best equity based pedagogical practices;
- Collaboratively contribute to the development of priorities for regional and school based professional development related equity, relational, and culturally responsive approaches;
- Provide a strong liaison with families and equity seeking organizations within their region to ensure parents and communities feel a key part of schools and their services and have a say in their directions;
- Any other related duties as required

**Training/Qualifications/Experience**:**
- Valid Nova Scotia Teaching License, required;
- Five (5) years successful teaching experience, preferred;
- Graduate Studies or a Masters Degree, preferred;
- Training and/or experience in program implementation and/or curriculum development, preferred;
- Training and/or experience in leadership;
- Training and/or experience in educational research;
- Tranining and/or experience in data collection and analysis;
- Experience in planning and facilitating professional development;
- Demonstrated knowledge of differentiated instruction and assessment;
- Excellent leadership, team building, communication and interpersonal skills;
- Well-developed decision-making and creative problem-solving ability;
- Strong knowledge of equity frameworks, anti-racist education, and human rights legislation;
- Experience developing and delivering professioal learning in equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive pedagogy;
- Ability to analyze policies, programs, and practices through an equity lens;
- Excellent collaboration and relationship-building skills with diverse stakeholders, including students, families, educators, and community organizations;
- Proven ability to lead systemic change in educational settings;
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
