Role Title
Manager, Member Governance
Purpose of role
Reporting to the AVP, Member Engagement, Governance & Development, the Manager, Member Governance will help deliver an effective and sustainable Member Governance system leading to greater engagement levels of our members and alignment to Foresters Financial strategic direction and purpose. This includes:
- Creating opportunities for members to develop leadership skills and participate in Foresters member network
- Providing governance advice and effective communications to member leaders to ensure they are well informed and maintain a positive member leader opinion
- Providing management support for the robust election management system open to all members while working with elected leaders towards succession planning for all levels of Foresters Governance
- Ensuring the benefits of governance positions are valued and provide meaningful member roles
The Manager, Member Governance role is based out of the Toronto office and supports a team across Canada, US and UK. The role requires some remote work in the evening and on weekends and supports Pacific to UK Time zones. As this role will require some travel, a valid passport is required.
**Job Description**:
Key Responsibilities
- Develop strategies to support modernizing and sustaining the Member Network and governance systems and processes, leading to greater engagement of our members
- Plan, develop, manage and support all governance entities, programs, processes and infrastructure for member leaders
- Look for ways to optimize governance processes and create efficiencies to support higher level of program delivery
- Ensure Foresters is compliant with regulations to ensure the sustainability of our fraternal status
- Ensure efficient systems are set up to meet the constitutionally required governance meetings (over 800 per year), events and elections
- Manage end to end process for all governance elections and to ensure a sound democratic elections processes that aligns with Foresters Constitution
- Oversee the organization and project management of the required Governance meetings and elections to adhere to Foresters Constitutional requirements, timelines and succession planning goals
- Liaise across teams to deliver effective governance programs and support of the Member Network
- Assist in the development and execution of member leader engagement and succession planning strategies to sustain the member governance structure and support the delivery of Foresters Purpose
- Responsible for record keeping and data retention practices required to support an effective governance system
- Provide leadership and support for all member governance events and conferences
- Develop, facilitate and deliver presentations to member leaders and other key audiences
- Provide as conduit for member leader outreach to ensure a positive experience in all channels of interaction
- Assist in the member leader consultation for Governance programs and process development across three countries
- Actively engage in the development and implementation of a more robust and meaningful member leader role
- Build and maintain relationships with member leaders and effectively liaise with diverse groups and a range of individuals, remotely and in person, in a professional manner
- Provide input for all Governance programs and projects including Branch, Regional Assembly and International Assembly elections, Governance meetings, Foresters Constitution and Policies, member events and conferences
- Respond to and deal effectively with member leader queries
- Manage a remote team across Canada, USA and UK and provide leadership to the Member Governance Specialists, Member Network Coordinators, and Member Governance Coordinator
- Ensure clarity around priorities and goals for the Member Governance team and within the Membership department
- Responsible for talent identification and development processes for all Member Governance employees
- Provide leadership and coaching to the Member Governance team to ensure individual and business goals are achieved and/or exceeded to ensure a robust governance system is maintained
Key Qualifications
- 10+ years experience building strong and productive relationships both internally and externally
- 5+ years management experience; experience managing remote team/stakeholders considered an asset
- Volunteer and/or Governance experience with a fraternal or non-profit organization considered an asset
- University degree in social sciences, business or related field
- Effective leadership skills with experience in managing a dispersed workforce
- Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to interact and maintain productive working relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders
- Proven collaboration skills to work productively cross-departmentally, including distinct stakeholders such as senior executives, member leaders and remote teams
