Community Helpers Program Coordinator

**Overview**:
The Community Helpers Program (CHP) Coordinator will implement and deliver the Alberta Health Services Community Helpers Program within Camrose and surrounding communities. This role focuses on mental health promotion, suicide awareness, and building community capacity through peer-support training for youth and young adults aged 12-30, as well as adults supporting youth. The coordinator will engage community partners, deliver training sessions, follow up with participants, and promote the program to reduce stigma and enhance access to professional supports.
**Primary Duties & Responsibilities**:
**Community Services Engagement**:
- Build relationships with local community organizations, businesses, and leaders.
- Promote the program through various local channels and partnerships.
- Connect Helpers to appropriate mental health supports and services.
**Program Implementation and Training**:
- Identify community sites such as schools, post-secondary institutions, and workplaces to deliver CHP.
- Conduct information sessions and recruit participants for training.
- Facilitate CHP training sessions, delivering core modules and other requested modules.
- Utilize flexible training delivery methods to meet participants’ needs (e.g., full-day, half-day, or mini modules).
**Follow-Up and Capacity Building**:
- Provide follow-up opportunities for Helpers at least four times annually to reinforce skills and foster connections.
- Develop and implement community capacity-building events focused on youth mental health and suicide prevention.
- Collaborate with other organizations to host awareness campaigns and events.
**Program Monitoring and Reporting**:
- Oversee the completion and submission of post-training surveys and other evaluation tools to Alberta Health Services (AHS).
- Track program outcomes and maintain accurate records of activities, training sessions, and participant feedback.
- Submit quarterly reports to AHS as required.
**Provincial Collaboration**:
- Participate in monthly provincial network meetings and share best practices.
- Attend professional development opportunities hosted by AHS, including one virtual and one in-person session annually.
**Additional Responsibilities**:
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director or designate to support organizational goals, meet program demands, or respond to emerging needs.
**Requirements**:
- Diploma or degree in Social Work, Psychology, Education or Community Development.
- Current Standard First Aid Certification.
- Clear Criminal Record Check.
- Clear Vulnerable Sector Police Information Check
- ASIST or suicide intervention training.
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention/De-escalation training.
- Class 5 Driver’s License with a Driver’s Abstract - 3 years of insured driving
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Gmail, and databases.
- Familiarity with rural and remote service delivery barriers.
- Demonstrated knowledge of harm reduction, trauma-informed care, and holistic responses.
**Experience**:
- Experience recruiting, training, and coordinating volunteers.
- Proven ability to develop relationships with community partners and promote wellness initiatives.
- Skilled in public speaking, group facilitation, and delivering structured curriculum.
- Experience in monitoring, evaluating, and reporting program activities.
**Skills and Competencies**:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Knowledge of mental health promotion and suicide awareness.
- Ability to organize and facilitate training sessions for diverse group sizes.
- Comfortable using evaluation tools and tracking program data.
Pay: $19.00-$21.00 per hour
