- To be eligible for a summer student position with the City of Oshawa you must be currently enrolled in full-time studies at a community college or university and be returning to full-time studies in the fall. Documentation from the school must be provided indicating your intention to return to school at the end of the summer break in the current year. If this documentation is not received, you will be disqualified from the student employment program and will not be considered for future student employment opportunities._

Students are an important component of the Community and Operations Services Departments workforce and are key to the successful delivery of our programs. Students must commit to a full term of employment from May - September 2025.

All positions will require either a Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check or a Criminal Record with Vulnerable Sector Check, as a condition of employment.

**ATTENTION**:

Duties for these positions **may** include:

- Labourer activities such as: grass cutting, shoveling and digging holes, raking concrete, asphalt and top soil, and turf maintenance (natural and synthetic)
- Operation and maintenance of hand tools, small power tools and grass cutting tractors, mowers and trimmers
- General clean up duties, including: litter picking, grounds and facility clean up, facility set-ups and take downs, painting and basic building maintenance
- Completing fieldwork such as data collection and site monitoring
- All positions are required to work in accordance with the City of Oshawa’s Safe Work Standards and the Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act

**Requirements**:
Position requirements **may** include:

- Possession and maintenance of a valid Class G/G2 Ontario Driver's Licence in good standing, and able to pass the Corporation's tests for motor vehicle operation
- Able and willing to work within the roadway
- Good communication skills and ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Physically fit and able to perform strenuous work such as climbing, lifting and moving heavy items (some positions may include lifting items up to 80 lbs./approx. 36kgs.), involving considerable effort, and capable of performing the work assigned in a safe manner
- Possess of a valid First Aid and CPR certification or willing to obtain prior to start date
- Able to work evenings, weekends and holidays as required at various locations due to the nature of operations
