The Diabetes Comprehensive Care Program (DCCP) strives to provide optimum patient-focused care to all individuals that attend the Ophthalmology Offices. This results-oriented individual will insure that all day-to-day clinic activities run smoothly, by working collaboratively with the office and diagnostic services personnel. This is a unique opportunity for the program as this position entails working alongside the St. Michael's Hospital retinal ophthalmologists in managing their patients.

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Explain purpose and procedures for tests to patients.
- Document test results.
- Maintain patient records.
- Maintain safe and therapeutic work environment.
- Complete basic instrument and equipment maintenance; identification of problems and arrangement of repairs.
- Order supplies and help to maintain equipment, e.g., clean lenses, change bulbs, etc. and assist in the arrangement of servicing when necessary.
- Provide optimum patient care, along with patient education, and demonstrate a professional manner in the work setting.
- Research responsibilities include participating in research protocols in collaboration with the Ophthalmologist.
- Attend conferences and seminars to improve skills, remain current and learn of new techniques and equipment.
- Office duties as necessary, i.e. pulling and filing charts, answering phones.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Graduate of a post-secondary Ophthalmic Assistant program.
- Minimum of two (2) years recent ophthalmic experience preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and prioritize work.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent computer knowledge and experience.
- Demonstrated excellent customer/patient service.
- Excellent record of attendance and puncutality.
- Flexible work hours required (early and/or late start times).
