**Job description**
JOB SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Environment & Consultation Department Manager and working within the
Environment & Consultation Department (ECD), the Energy Consultation
Coordinator is a full-time (contract) position supporting Caldwell First Nation’s
Environment and Consultation Department Energy consultation process. This includes
coordinating consultation and monitoring Energy-oriented projects across CFN’s Traditional
Territory via Department-approved processes. The Energy Consultation Coordinator is also
responsible for enhancing the Department’s capacity in the Energy sector, such as seeking out
Capacity Funding Agreements, strategic planning, and helping the Department to develop Impact
Benefits Agreements, while at the same time executing community engagement regarding key
Energy projects and the Department’s rights-based initiatives. While a one-year contract
position, the role is multi-year in its outlook and renewal of contract will depend on Department
capacity-building and funding. The Energy Consultation Coordinator must understand Caldwell
First Nation’s specific priorities and work to promote the Nation’s vision and values.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Liaise with external stakeholders and entities to ensure representation of Caldwell First
Nation’s interests in Ontario Energy Sector;
- Work with consultants and specialized professionals to review and/or complete impact
studies, impact benefit studies, and ensure environmental protection is a priority;
- Monitor and respond to a comprehensive and detailed database of all incoming
consultation requests, documentation, and contact information for external Government
and various industry agencies;
- Expand the presence of Department programming, including but not limited to Energy,
education, environment, culture, language, etc.;
- Develop proposals/action items with regards to CFN’s interests in the Energy Sector and
Energy Consultation process; prepare letters, reports, infographics, briefing notes, etc.
- Expand relationships and networks within the CFN Traditional Territory that will
contribute to increased involvement and success for areas of interest programs;
- Provide input to and help maintain natural resources information systems and promote
awareness of traditional resource management and protection.
- Conduct and assist in conducting community engagements on various ECD initiatives;
- Collect comments, issues, and concerns from community and share with Energy sector
organizations like Hydro One, Enbridge, etc.
- Conduct and assist in conducting site visits and monitoring as needed by the ECD;
- Conduct and assist in conducting presentations for CFN Leadership and the community
to disseminate project information;
- Collaborate with Energy sector proponents to maximize contracting and
employment/procurement opportunities on projects;
- Assist and advise in cross-departmental and -organizational Energy projects and
processes (i.e. economic development, Housing, etc.) within Caldwell First Nation as
deemed necessary by the Department Manager or Chief Administrative Officer;
- Prepare monthly and annual statistics, quarterly reports, and an annual report in
conjunction with the Chief Administrative Officer on an as-needed basis;
- Build in-house capacity in the Environment and Consultation Department by identifying
and assisting in coordinating short
- and long-term funding;
- Commit to in-person project management, community engagement, and tasks both in
- office and in-field, as well as remote or virtual work at the direction of the Department
Manager
- Follow all CFN policies and procedures, as well as ECD guidelines set by the
Department Manager
- Pursue continuous learning and development;
Working Conditions:
- Working in an office environment; working outdoors;
- Office hours are 8:30am - 4:30pm, a flexible schedule maybe required including nights
and weekends depending on business needs;
- Lift up to 20 pounds.
Travel:
- Some travel maybe required, such as for General Membership Meetings, conferences,
meetings, and training;
- Some travel may require staying overnight depending on needs.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Post-Secondary degree in a related field, such as Political Science or Electrical
Engineering, or combined equivalent in Anishinaabe Traditional Knowledge background
- Demonstrable technical training and knowledge with regards to the Ontario Energy
Sector, including but not limited to natural gas, hydro electricity, solar energy, wind
energy, and sustainable energy systems more generally;
