At Brian’s Café the barista will be responsible for providing excellent customer service and maintaining a positive guest experience. The position will assist in taking orders, order consolidation and preparation and guest management. The barista will provide great quality beverages and food to our guests while keeping the café clean and welcoming. The barista will report directly to the Café Manager and assist the manager in training new staff members.

**Position Type**:Permanent Part-time (20 hours per week)
**Schedule**:Monday to Friday: 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. (may include weekends)

**MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Preparing beverages such as drip coffees, lattes, cappuccinos and tea lattes.
- Cleaning and maintaining café and workspace.
- Greeting and connecting with guests entering the café.
- Taking orders and using point of sales system accurately and efficiently.
- Serving and warming pastries and other food items.
- Operating and maintaining espresso machine.
- Reporting and logging cash reconciliation, and daily deposits.
- Assisting manager in inventory management.
- Open and closing café.
- Adhere to Food and Safety guidelines.

**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS**
- Experience as a barista is an asset.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent time management and multi-tasking skills.
- Valid food handler’s permit an asset.
- Basic math literacy to handle cash transactions and deposits.
- Team-oriented with helpful attitude.
- Great customer service skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Strong leadership skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

**WORKING CONDITIONS**
- Long periods of standing and performing repetitive tasks.
- Cleaning and handling different chemicals for sanitizing surfaces and areas for food and drink preparation.
- Work environment is fast-paced and can be high demand.
- Should be able to lift at least 25 lbs, to help stock and put away orders.
- Employees are to be aware that many of our clients may experience difficulties or impairment at times, which could result in them uttering threats, discriminatory statements, and other insults at your person. This may be in a raised voice, or in seeing unpredictable behaviour up to and including the possibility of them becoming aggressive
- Training on how to respond is provided, but this is to be considered typical working conditions. Many of our clients are unaware of the impact of these comments.

**ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS**
- An Employment Background Check is required for all positions at The Mustard Seed.
- Valid Driver's License (Class 5) and access to a reliable vehicle with a minimum of $2,000,000 liability insurance.
