Survey Field Technician

Our CLIENT is the emerging Ontario Land Surveying firm of its parent company, an established multi-disciplinary Planning, Civil, Structural, Mechanical, and Electrical engineering firm, serving clients across Ontario. Combined, the 2 firms employ over 100 surveyors, engineers, engineers-in-training, technologists, technicians, planners, and administrative personnel. It offers a full range of services to public and private sector clients including boundary surveying, topographic surveys, construction layout, geodetic and control surveys, route surveys, as-builts, monitoring surveys, SRPR, lot grading, and more.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Take direction from Project Lead to understand the scope of work and critical data items to complete the survey correctly including clear correspondence with Project Lead and OLS to ensure smooth office and field operations.
- Use and maintain survey instruments, GPS field equipment, GNSS equipment, robotic total stations, data collectors, and a variety of levelling equipment to collect data
- Field work on site for boundary retracement, SRPRs, Reference Plans, Subdivisions, Condos as well as construction layout and topographic surveys.
- Daily download of data and prepare extensive field notes and sketches; Transfers survey data to the proper files in the computer network and acquire data for field use.
- Field layout of stake points including pins, monuments, stakes, hub, and nails.
- Communicate errors, problems, and questions to the Project Lead and OLS
- Interpret a variety of plans, deeds, sketches, construction and architectural drawings and maps
- Directs and conducts surveys for clients coordinating with the survey project manager.
- Performs accurate measurements and calculations in recording field data using instruments and measuring devices.
- Ensures surveys follow applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
- Responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of vehicles, tools, and equipment.
- Help create proposals by estimating field time necessary to complete a project.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
- Coordinate with and support the office drafting department using AutoCAD when required.
- Other duties as assigned by OLS or Project Leads.
**Skills / Qualifications**:
- Diploma in Survey Engineering Technology or Civil Engineering Technology program or equivalent experience.
- Proficiency with survey equipment (knowledge of Carlson software is an asset), GNSS, data collectors, robotic total stations, and 3D LiDAR scanners.
- Ability to adhere to AOLS regulations, knowledge of field survey methods, and calculations in the collecting boundary evidence in the field.
- Eagerness to become familiar with industry standards and methods to approach required solutions.
- Experience performing field boundaries, topographic ties, land title surveys, and construction staking.
- Strong attention to detail and expertise in building client relationships.
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in all manner of professional land surveying.
- Ability to adhere to strict quality control practices and safety policies.
- Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions in a physical manner for 8+ hours/day.
- Ability to move approximately 50 lbs.
- A valid driver’s license, insurance, and access to reliable transportation; May be required to use personal vehicle (disbursements to be reimbursed).
- Qualified Ontario Land Surveyor in Training (OLSIT) considered an asset.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and AutoCAD considered an asset.
**Salary**: $50,000.00-$85,000.00 per year
