Program Specialist

The School of Health and Life Sciences (SHLS) is looking for a Program Specialist to provide individualized academic progression guidance and coaching to students within SHLS. This position requires a dedicated and motivated professional with a high level of intercultural competence, who is comfortable working with students from diverse backgrounds. The Specialist’s primary focus is to support the progression and retention of current students and they will work collaboratively with the Program Chairs and other service areas across the institution. Well-versed in SHLS academic programs and pathways and NAIT student supports and services, the Specialist must be able to interpret student needs to provide appropriate individualized support and guidance.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Work closely with Program Chairs to provide appropriate program-specific guidance/coaching to students (prospective, current, and returning) to support their academic progression.
- Provide transactional support, assist with Case Management of At-Risk Students, and/or appropriate referrals
- Actively contribute to the enhancement of SHLS student-facing services and business processes
- Perform reporting activities
- Assist with the facilitation of information sessions and/or workshops
- Collaborate with programs and services at NAIT to facilitate positive student experiences
- Maintain student records

**Skills & Abilities**:

- To be successful in this role, you will require a strong understanding of the theoretical framework of student-centered developmental advising along with the ability to handle student, public, external agency, and staff inquiries with respect, confidence, and tact. Communication and interpersonal skills, including effective listening and emotional intelligence; problem-solving and conflict resolution skills; ability to prioritize and organize; ability to work as a team member and build collaborative working relationships; ability to effectively embrace change; and the ability to learn and use related software, are all essential to this role

**Qualifications**:

- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field with 3-5 years of related experience
- Experience with advising on programs offered at SHLS will be considered an asset

**Remuneration**: $2,171.84 - $2,880.72 biweekly, plus a comprehensive benefits package. (Classification - Advisor II).
- This position is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement._
